Lots of successful people. One thing in common between them, that I noticed, is that to a man, they are all confident.

[snip] "If others can do it, I can do it too" [snip] "Things will work out okay" [snip]

Odd, my confidence is referred to as being cocky, and the other two qualities you mentioned just seem to piss people off... ;)

(I suppose that's why they all hang out together, birds of a feather and all.)
It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . .

Isn't confident and cocky pretty much the same thing?

It depends on the attitude involved with the confidence. One can be confident in one's abilities without being a complete jackass ( cocky ) about it.

I've always maintained that, so long as you aim for excellence in whatever you do, you cannot go wrong. Any progress is a success.

I was told one of those self-improvement mantras years ago:
Success is the gradual realisation of a series of pre-determined goals
ie: Know what you want to achieve and how to get there; and go for it, one step at a time.

I am a table games dealer supervisor at a casino (sometimes called the "pit boss"). Which means now instead of standing around and playing cards for a living I stand around and watch other people play cards for a living.
