On January 5th I signed up to run seti WUs on my idle cps on the laptop. Just an interest in UFOs and their drivers.
How many computers, or how much RAC is obsessive?
I've got my eye on the X9770, when it's released. Is this normal?

:)

One or two machines crunching on idle: casual user.
10 machines crunching full time: interested user.
Buying all the latest hardware and o/cing it beyond belief (msattler, I'm looking at you!): hardcore user.
Running it on every machine you have permission to: healthy obsession.
Running it on every machine you don't have permission to: unhealthy obsession.

I have always liked to upgrade...Since seti I have a hard time turning off an old computer as long as it can run Seti...I am trying to figure out where I put a new quad I want to build...Seti just gives me a good reason to keep them running...My real hobby is building and overclocking machines....

Ain't it fun? If I could do it for a living and make decent money doing it, I'd love life so much more.

While nurse Olga does not agree, it is just a hobby.

I know of some who have literally dozens of PCs, One guy has no cases, But has them setup nicely on some plastic shelves, Obsessive? Maybe, Maybe not. Me I only have 4 PCs, 2 online and 2 offline that are in storage for a while so I'm not obsessive. Or I don't think I am at least.

I'm not obssesive at all. I only run one pc 24/7. Some of the time my main pc only runs at 30% of the cpu, this is only done when I am using the computer though. I don't consider this to be at all obsesive.

It's not an addiction, I can stop anytime I decide I want to.

I just don't want to :-)
It's not too many computers, it's a lack of circuit breakers for this room. But we can fix it :)

Thank you, all. You've eased my fears and helped me justify my next purchase.

I found a mob on ebay who recondition old Dells. I can get a workstation with one Xeon for half the price of my 2nd quad box. And still have room to expand!

It would be irresponsible to miss such a great deal!
Again, Thank you all.

I would put every old machine I have to crunching except my apartment is power poor. I will be pushing it with the laptop, game rig(current cruncher) and the new quad system in the works. The quad will be the first cow on the new farm. The game rig will become a quad later in the year as money allows. This will put me at 8 cores crunching. I tried crunching with the laptop but it got to warm to my liking.

Being retired and finding a great hobby like this, Priceless!

If you want to crunch with your laptop browse circuit city for a laptop cooler pad...i got one for $15 and it dropped my powerbook's temp about 10 degrees...no longer burns my lap when im on it

The laptop has gone back to its old job of playing music, email and videos. All of which it does a great job of.

I am not addicted. :o

I have 1 laptop and 2 stationary PCs NOT crunching SETI, (they aren't even powered up) :)

My Laptop is an old 850 MHz PIII, sufficient for internet banking but starts to puff and groan, when I try to get some work out of it.

The other 2 PC's are an Athlon 3000+ and an Athlon64 X2 6400+.

Those 2 could do a decent job of crunching SETI, but my Electricity Meter is already Busy enough.

My 2 running hosts consumes 15+ KWh per day equal to $190 per month. (Power is expensive in Denmark :( )

This is all my strained budget can take, right now.

So I am not addicted, or do I need qualified help?? :)
