following the link http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ I didn't reach any longer the SETI@home classic homepage. I get a site related to Ranardo. Other user in Germany report the same issue.

Is a regional problem or does it happen from other countries too? So is it a server or a DNS problem/attack?

All that's left is;

Thanks also to Starwave, who sponsored the scientific feasibility study.

There is still the possibility that someone makes a editing mistake. The web pages, servers and databases at SSL where not trivial to handle at the moment because of the BOINC changes. May be a unexperienced student create the problem.

But normally I would say too, that it looks hacked. At the moment it is deep in the night in Berkeley and so I believe we will hear about it in the morning.

Actually, it looks like a DNS snafu to me. That said, http://setiathome2.ssl.berkeley.edu/index.html resolves to 128.32.18.186 and according to ARIN, that IP is owned by UCB. So likely it is an editing mistake. Or else Seti received a signal from another world and it was a link to the aliens webpage.

Doesn't appear we have a conspiracy today. Oh well.....

Hello,

When I rightclick from the projects window to reach the website I am derived to some commercial website "Ranardo".
This especially is very annoying.
Also direct contact via the Favorites pulldown takes you to this page.

Then I started controlling with Ad-aware 6.0 and with Spybot Search&Destroy.
These found 9 instances of tracing cookies and malware. I do this on a regular basis and the computer is virtually only used for crunching.

I think a lot off people are affected.
Has anyone seen effects on credits and / or uploads or downloads ? For the moment that part seems untouched but I don't feel very comfortable with this situation, espacially not in the weekend when there is probably not so much assistance in Berkeley.

Greetings from Belgium ;-))

Update of my previous message.

The URL's wich are affected :

http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu
http://setiathome2.ssl.berkeley.edu

For the moment I still can reach this via
http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu

If the latter also fails, many are going to have problems to reach the site...

Note : The "old" site of Seti@Home Classic did also become unreachable.

I sincerely hope to have been of any (all be it little) help to the rest of the Seti community.
In my opinion this is not an editing fault with all respect to the soulmates crunchers.

Greetings from Belgium ;-))

Update number two.

I cannot promise anything but I am trying to do my utmost to get as fast in contact with the project administrator Matt Lebofsky. In the very beginning of Seti, years ago I had some small Email exchange with him, and when we are lucky I perhaps could find his Email adress on one of my five year old computers stowed away in the garage.
So please be patient...

Hoping to be of any help,
Greetings from Belgium ;-))

Hi all :)

I am sure there is no security problem for the clients!

The webside didn't try to set tracking cookies or to force download of any malware.

The webistes behind the main page seems to work normal. The databases and BOINC servers (schedulers) have their own security functions in different levels. I didn't believe, if there was a security break that they are impact too.

At the moment we can not know if was a mistake or a attack, but I believe that it is not a critical issue for the clients at all. Specially BOINC is very resistant against attacks.

Early this morning campus got a call from SANS that our web site (this page) appeared to be hijacked. At that point campus (rightly so) blocked access to our site at the campus router. As it turns out though, we were not hijacked at all. Our nightly front page regen script had malfunctioned and produced a truncated page. This is now fixed.
