. . . Thanks Crunch3r - i heard 'bout that and heard somebody use the 'coined-phrase' - even a monkey could do that . . . ;))

< reminds mi of Canadian Abstractionist Wendy Skog

I, myself find that really interesting. If you look at the pictures done by the apes and compare that one to the one you posted below that...

It's very interesting... now what defines those as art ?
What's the definition of art and what makes the 'human' art different from what an ape can do ? Especially considering those 'modern' arts of drawing pics...

This is fascinating...

. . . indeed it is - and i remember - back in Los Angeles - MOCA (The Museum of Contempoary Art) bought a NY Artists 'Grafitti' - for a lot of $$$ and which was quite large - and after that every little 'pee-wee' wanna be gang member grafittist began Tagging everywhere - expecting to get some noteriety out of their endeavors . . . ;)

. . . beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder - this is the way my collectors feel - they who have bought acquistions of art

Actually no... i do agree that 'beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder'... that's true but what makes that 'beautly' beeing called art or what entitles someone beeing called an 'artist' ?

I could call myself an artist of optimizing or what ever you like but does that make me a true 'artist' who defines 'art' ?

. . . Art is defined by many a People - and their tastes vary - as does 'each' individual that Collects Art - and is just as diversified as the other . . . and - my Collectors love my artwork - THAT is the reason for their purchasing for their Collection

> start here: Definitions of art on the Web - as an example . . .

. . . Quite an Interesting Artist

Scott Wayne Indiana's Public Art Project for the Blind, Braille Graffiti,

"is an attempt to create a unique moment for a blind person who might happen across one of these bits of braille graffiti."

The project was inspired by an interview with a blind person who chose to remain anonymous.

5 phrases were printed and scattered about the streets of Portland, Oregon, delivering messages like

"You don't have to be blind to see that the writing is on the wall" and "Tiny bubbles that randomly rose from the paper in this arrangement."

Artists generate business. They gentrify neighborhoods. They light up nightlife for restaurants & clubs and all the vendor businesses attached to them.

Active public artists - like Indiana - inspire young people to learn about the arts as a real here and now activity, a way to engage with your community,

and not a stuffy history lesson. Artists pay rent, buy groceries, raise kids, tame wild animals. Very useful citizens

Doc, the paintings you did - that's real talent. I posess no such skill myself so am envious. I can't even manage basic drawings due to a complete lack of hand eye coordination.

That's an attempt of painting that I did at some time in the past:

(Since I do not believe in some thing like "intellectual property", this picture, like all my written and painted/drawn/GIMP-made works, is under the same conditions which are - for software - claimed in the principle of "Copyleft" )

Before I painted this picture above, I made a picture on GIMP showing a guy similar to that in the bottom left, climbing in an all brown rock wall.
(unfortunally I don't have that pic anymore, the HDD where it have been on is broken, so all files having been on it are lost, and I've just been too lazy to do it again since then)
Anyway, when I showed it to someone he asked me something like: "What will this guy see when he arrives at the top?"
That's why this picture above is titled "After the climbing"
Account frozen...

Hello Dr.C.E.T.I., like those Russian hand crafted computers.
You do a nice woodcarving yourself, like it.

Also like the 'ape' paintings.

You also draw very beautifull pic's, the 'photograph's sure are a beauty.
You are gifted. Understand also use GIMP, like the program too.

I like the Mural. Very industrial, but would work well in a domestic environment too. I can well imagine something like that breaking up a large bare wall in a garden.

. . . remembering an old friend

Copyright Leonardo Studios Production - Photograph - 'Tobey' - 2008

. . . received an e-mail last week and ever since - there has been an extensive
wealth of new information for me to digest . . . this old friend of Tobey's
wrote me and i find it fascinating the way life can turn out . . . the following
quotes are excerpted from this friend of Tobey's - her notes tell a 'Tale of Sorts' :

"Yesterday, a woman with whom I work asked about the sculpture on my desk
- she wondered if my husband had done it as he welds in his job and I
have one of the first things he ever welded also on my desk. I told her
"No, it was done by Tobey" and told her a little about him. She asked
"What is he doing now?" and I said "I don't know" - so she toodled off
and found him via Google."

"I met Tobey 32 years ago when I was 15 and he was a year older - (the
same age as my second son - yikes, we were really young and that was a
long time ago) - he was working as a dishwasher in the Churchill
Restaurant where a gang of us hung out - Tobey and I went out, off and on
again, for about 6 years. We were really intense and volatile and I am
not really sure how we lost track of each other, but we did."

"Last night, I found another little bit about him in your archives and
was struck by your description of him as brilliant and spiritual. We
used to have very deep conversations about ultimate reality and God and
spirit, so I am not surprised that he is still pondering. Of course,
these were the "trying to find meaning" talks you have when you're first
considering this stuff in your teens. I have been going through the
second round now, as we all do, in mid-life. It would be interesting to
hear his thoughts now."

"Tobey was always a phenomenal welder - I remember him silver brazing two
Gillette razor blades together without warping them when he was in grade
11 or 12. The motorcycle is really neat - it is only about 9 inches long
by 2 high and is very detailed - I'll try to get the faculty's digital
camera and send you a shot. (btw - my husband has never met Tobey, but
has heard things about him - the sculpture is technically in my
collection!)"

"The name thing is funny too - in one of our hiatal periods, I met him
with his girlfriend of the day, and was intensely jealous until she
called him "Jeff" and then I knew it was not serious. He also sometimes
used to go by "Jet" when the Elton John song "Bennie and the Jets" was
out. Lots of memories and I am just sitting here with a big smile,
feeling warm inside. I remember him so fondly. Chasing Larry Peconi in
the Corvair down to Fontaine Cycle - wiping out his brother's Mustang in
the parking lot of Stewart - drag racing in the '59 push button
transmission Chryco on George street - getting us into the Long Bar in
the Four Seasons in Toronto even though he had no tie on - challenging
my dad to a fight, then running out of gas on the way home and calling
him for help..... "

- excerpt of an e-mail by Helen Armstrong Kominek [ Faculty Administrative Officer ]
Faculty of Communication and Culture - University of Calgary, CANADA

- - - - -

. . . and now i have to see Tobey and inform him about this and you may see more of
his 'Motorcycle' in the Art Portfolios. What luck for Tobey - What luck for me - that my friends have
provided this Journal so that i may write about these situations . . . NOW - if only some of the Collectors of
My Artworks - that i no longer have records / photos / nor data on - would suddenly discover these pages
and send me pictures so that i could create a more 'comprehensive volume' of my past . . . uhm, i wonder . . .
