You aren't supposed to look at the keyboard -- this is all about feel.

OK. Here's the thing. I type somewhere around 55-60 wpm, with a fairly high degree of accuracy. I don't need the "assurance" that I hit a key hard enough or that I hit the right key, I either know that I hit the right key by just being confident or that I can see the screen as I'm typing and realize that I was successful or made a boo-boo... I also do not "pound" the keyboard either.

Anyway, I've used them before, and just don't like them. To each their own...

Don't worry Brian, you'll get faster. :-)

I find that I generally don't "drive" the keys all the way to the bottom on a good "click" keyboard, once the contact makes (once it clicks) I'm off to the next key.

So, if you really get used to this type of keyboard, you probably pound less than one where you don't know if the key took until the words appear on the screen.

I make typos too, but I'm faster and more accurate on the keyboard I'm used to.

As you say, it's whatever works best.

Me, I have trouble with the so called "natural" keyboards that are split down the middle. I'm not used to having my wrists straight and it seems very unnatural.

I was a first gen ps2 clicky keyboard fan, but have to put up with an el'cheapo logitech now :( .... oh .. On the mouse issue ... Got given a razer copperhead with Exactmat for christmas (control side / Speed side)... Will never look back.. both MS and logitech feel like molasses now ....

Jason

It would be too uncomfortable for me, as it is designed for either hand... Since I'm right-handed and not a heavy gamer, I have what I (and many others) consider to be the "Cadillac" of mice, the Logitech MX Revolution... I have the sensitivity cranked up so high that people who try to use it generally have the pointer flying all over the place... ;-) For me, I can move from one side of a 1280x1024 screen to the other by moving the mouse only about 3/4 of an inch... I could probably turn it up a little more to get the movement to be less than that... When I go to other people's houses or I go to the college, I feel like I'm having to move my arm clear across the table to do anything... LOL

That's just it... I type with confidence... LOL... There also is very little lag between when I press a key and when it shows up on screen. If you have lags, then you've got a different issue...

For the record, the Logitech Media Keyboard is not full "mush". It does take some effort to press, but not all that much. Anyway, I'm a light typer, not a pounder...

Agreed... This guy at work was all about the "natural" keyboards. I couldn't get into them either...

Logitech MX Revolution...
This, If it's one with the laser, then is pretty much equivalent I understand. I lent my copperhead to mum to play cards... funniest thing I ever did see .. Cards flying all over the place :D ....

It does have a laser, but the Copperhead is a "gamer's mouse", while the MX Revolution is not marketed as such, as it is heavier than say the G9 or the G5/G3/MX518 (corded models)

Out of curiosity, Are you "palm" or "claw"? [I've been monitoring my habits and seem to be mostly claw ....]

:looks at my palm, notices hair: :-x

Honestly, I have no idea what you're talking about... I guess you mean the grip style... I'll have to google it and edit... LOL

Definitely palm... I'm not an avid gamer...

Oh Scarecrow.....where art thou?

Well I'm not sure what was going on. Looks like something glitched on the backbone side around 18:00 UTC that lasted about 8 minutes... I'll have to look at the logs to see if there was more evil afoot earlier. But it looks like things are back to relative normalcy for now.

This guy at work was all about the "natural" keyboards. I couldn't get into them either

. . . hopefully - you're each gettin' the 'blazingly fast' @ this time - seems like it's workin' right now ;)

ps - no more valium for the system today eh

I better take some before I tear my keyboard up.........

Anybody else use an IBM 42H1292? I buy them on ebay because I have to have the 'clicky' keyboard.....cannot stand the 'soft serve' ones......
I have one or two in reserve...

I do -- and have several "new old stock" keyboards stored away.

What I'm wondering (and simply haven't tried) is what does it take to hook one to a USB port? I suspect that most USB/PS2 keyboards are somehow "USB-aware" but I'm not at all sure.

I am not sure it takes anything at all......the USB dongle thingy is supposed to know that there is a PS2 legacy thingy hangingy outy therey........whereis to sayey that there is a a PS2 mousey thingy and a keyboarding thingy hanging out tbere to be connected the hubby o' thingy.......
Oh, criminy, oh thingy...................

THIS is what I am talking about........
The current version (available in the standard cream color.....)
Now THIS is a KEYBOARD!!

Remember the bit with Scotty and the keyboard??
Scotty in the quest for Transparent Aluminum.....had to be a clicky...LOL.

I still have three old Selectric type keyboards that have the correct plug for modern mobos. And two short ones (no numeric keypad) that fit inside a regular bag.

I still look for them at hamfests. They go for two or three dollars each. I just have to make sure they don't have the old DIN plugs.

You may want to try the IBM model KB 8923 (FRU 07H0666) as a substitute. The one I am using now dates to 1996-12.

OMG....you know what a hamfest is???
Now that's really a hoot.
I have gone to a number of them since the 90's with a buddy of mine....
Never know what you might find there.......although I have found in the recent years they have become more commercialized and less ham-oriented.
I remember many years ago when there were folks from around the world with satellite phones in their hands bidding on a little electronic trinket that they thought would be of some value in their home world......
The biggest one in the world is said to be in Dayton, Ohio, USA, and I have been there many times.

Of course I know what a hamfest is. I used to be KA4BBS until I stopped renewing the license. I go to the Tropical Hamboree in Miami. They cancelled it last year due to conflicts that caused financial problems for the sponsors.

I gotta check if they are holding one this year. It usually takses place on the first weekend of February.

Some farms could use the power that the panel in the back controls. Think - nuclear power plant. Probably a re-arranged version of part of the panel from an S5W. Amazing the number of places that picture turns up and someone says it is a computer. Not so...

Hey.......the kitties find the fish where they lie.....
And they always are fat and happy......
I hope that those who take difference with this project will not always find it so.....
The cause is right and just. I will be here tomorrow as I have been here yesterday. And I hope you all will be here too.

And the kitties smile.......

You are all my brothers and sisters in this quest....
Let us not lose sight of why we came here in the first place.........not to quibble, but to search...........

I looked it up a while back. If memory serves, it is not even "a thing" or "a place", being a composite whipped up for some purpose. I don't think the various bits are even of a common era.

But I think it has been around a while--probably pre-Photoshop.

Alternately, perhaps this is real, and the composite I was looking into included part of it.

Anyone know?
