Did you check the hard drive? It could be bad.I mean it seems that you have covered most everything else. I don't know much about the internal workings but I have replaced memory and Hd's , i'm not very geeky at this stuff. LOL .

The CPU should be here today and I'll pop it in and let you know.

This is really stupid, but since it has happened to me I thought I'd mention it:
If you forget to connect the 4-pin 12v power connector to the MB it will do exactly as you describe - power on but completely dead. It's easy to miss because it's not always next to the main power connector - on my MBs it's on the other side of the board.

Another tip to remember.

I had an MSI board do this to me at the weekend. Couldn't fathom out the problem. Spoke to a tech & he advised to remove front USB connectors. Board booted up straight away. I've never come across this before, but the tech stated that he has had numerous situations like this, so all he does is psu, gpu, cpu & ram installed & test board before installing in case.

I now do this as it is a lot easier.

Anxiously awaiting your answer. I hope that solves the problem, or at least it will eliminate one possible error.

Well Daniel, no dice. Still see nothing. The only that is different now is it does power on the DVD drives. I've tried different monitors, graphics crads, memory from a working machine so I have no clue.

I have the 4 pin connector plugged in, no front USB plugged in. Anyone have anything else?

OK, I looked through the thread, but I couldn't find if you had tried swapping power supplies out or not. If you have, ignore this, but the DVD powering on now is weird...

At this point I would probably say the motherboard is indeed bad. It would seem you have spent more money on replacement parts than you would simply replacing the bad motherboard (not that I wouldn't have attempted the same thing myself).

In message ID 697527, he said:

The power supply is 450w, the old one was 400w.

So I think he tried that already.

Ah okay, yeah I missed that part. I am out of ideas as well, but now you have newer parts to go in a new mobo.

What new processor did you get? You can get some mobo's for cheap that will support the 9 series Pent D to make two computers out of the parts you have collected ;)

Have you installed the correct HSF for the cpu?

Sirius, I'm using the one that came with the CPU and it's spinning so I assume it's working.

Let me clear up a few things. When the old computer died, here is what I brought over to the new system: RAM, graphics cards, DVD Drive, and HDD drive.

So what I bought new is a MB, PSU, and 2 CPU's. Next move I guess is to buy either another new MB or PSU.

OK. the only reason I mentioned this is because I purchased an OEM cpu some time ago & purchased a seperate hsf for it. It spun but would not boot up. It caused me no end of grief because I rechecked everything like you have but still no joy.

On going to a tech support forum, I eventually got a reply that cleared the problem. Believe or not, it was the wrong voltage fan on the hsf that was causing the problem. Since then, I always ensure that I get the correct hsf for that cpu.

It may not help you, but what I have tended to do since starting my own business is to log all the tips that come my way. There has been several occasions recently where it came in very handy.

According to the ECS website there are two versions of this motherboard. V1.0 and V5.0. V1.0 does not support Pentium D processors.

I assumed that if he bought a new mobo, that he would have gotten the newer version. I hope I'm right.

I want to cuss so bad right now, I looked on my MB box and it says V1.0. >:)

I'll figure out which I want to get (new MB or CPU) and what ever is left is for the 15th system I guess. Thanks to everyone for your help so far and I'll let y'all know one way or the other.

You can probably RMA the MOBO and one of the CPU's.
Here is an ASRock MOBO that will work with either of the CPU's you bought and will work with the RAM and graphics card you have.
