I got a gift card that paid for 80% of a 320GB SATA drive. I used it to install the Win XP 64 CD I bought for myself.

It's a good thing I installed on a new HD, because the first several tries doing the install it wiped the partition table and I lost all the data on the drive (restored it from the original drive). THAT, of course resulted in a slew of lost WUs. I aborted some that had already reported, then I did a detach and managed to get most of them declared redundant and reissued, and a few were declared 'detached' outright, so I don't think anyone's going to be waiting on orphan WUs from that rig.

I got given an AMD Sempron 2800+, Asrock K7S41GX Motherboard, 512MB 400Mhz DDR.
And a cheap 400w PSU, woo!!!

Guess I'll find some use for it.
Probably stick the 10GB hard drive in it, and try to teach myself Linux.

Sorry no. It is impossible to get a Nehalem even if one has been very nice.

Ordered my Penny at the end of November, and still waiting the CPU delivery. Hope to have a second C2Q operating by mid January (maybe)

To get back on topic... since the last posts where off-topic ...

Yes, Santa dropped 2 quad core XEONS 5365 @ 3 GHz ( that makes it 8 cores), a matching PSU, an INTEL S5000VXN BOARD,4 GB RAM, and some fans...

However it won't waste time on SETI ... ATM running QMC@HOME and ABC@HOME ....

Your "waste time" comment confused me. What do you mean?

Well Christmas went so smoothly this year that Santa sweet-talked my wife in allowing me to upgrade my single core to a Dual or Quad-core depending on finances.

Go for a Q6600 if your budget will allow...well worth it.

Enough kit to build a system but no cpu/mb. Can't decide on what to go for at the moment. Want a quad or 2.

I've been a devout AMD geek since '96, but I'd go with the Q6600...That's my next build, great specs.

Being an AMD fan, You might consider buying a Phenom. Any decent AM2 board supports phenom processors, which is way cheaper than Intel Quads.
All about AMD Phenom doing poorly is rubbish. Using the optimized SSE2 client, one phenom using all 4 'cylinders' on SETI can reach well above 2,000 cobblestones daily, and this is the slowest model 9500.

Happy New Year to You all

I got myself a Playstation 3. Can't decide if it is possible to crunch Seti with it or not.

Anyway the Grandkids enjoy it when they are visiting!

I'd wait on the phenom until the next stepping which will hopefully solve some of the problems... plus later on they have plans of a unlocked multiplier version of the phenom.

But my Q6600 is giving nearer 4000 per day (somewhat o/c'd, admittedly)

What is your C2Q clocked to, and what CPU cooling do you use?

When the Penryn is built, I an staying with air but using a Cooler Master system. I plan to transplant the same system to my current Quad. Hopefully I'll get another couple of hunderd cobblestones on the RAC?

Because the Asus P5B Deluxe mobo prefers the clock at 400+ to anything between 350 and 400, I'm running at 8 x 425 = 3.4G cooled by a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme. Core temps are reading 54C with the case door closed - 52C with the case door open. The fans are spinning at 1300rpm so it is acceptably quiet.

This might count I guess, my uncle gave me an older server that I'm selling to make some money to buy a q6600 to replace two slower machines.
