Is it set for "Home" ? Did you do an "Update" afterwards ?

Another problem could be your OS. It is known Boinc v4.05 has difficulties with Win98.
You can download v4.09 but as it is under investigation any use of this version should be at your own risk.

I have have a desktop unit and so said do work whilst on batteries I had tried that turned off - made no difference

do work while computer in use is set to yes

and have no restriction on hours

What am I doing wrong ?

It looks like you will have to go to "Your account" "Preferences" "General" and change there the way you want Boinc to work with your PC. You will very probably need to change the 3 settings that are on top of that page.

After that in the tab "Projects" of Boinc you will need to do an "Update", mouse over S@H right click.
