Is this in linux? If so, are you using the "nvidia" binary drivers or the "nv" one? I haven't tried to use the graphics in linux but they use OpenGL. If you have the nvidia driver set up correctly I don't think it should take very much CPU power. Yes, this is Fedora 6. I'm running nvidia drivers and kernel module v100.14.19 (downloaded from nvidia.com). Keep in mind I'm running PCI video card, because I don't have AGP. |

My machine is just one example, however, running SETI graphics consumes 50% CPU (preference limit). Therefore, I only show my friends the graphics after suspending all other tasks. (I have a dual CPU setup.) I don't have a great graphics card (Geforce FX), so that may be part of the problem. Is this in linux? If so, are you using the "nvidia" binary drivers or the "nv" one? Yes you can get an optimized app that shows graphics but you will take a small performance hit for the graphics. Not much but I think it's only like 1 or 2 percent. (May be even less.) There is no screensaver for the Linux version of Seti@Home. Yes you can get an optimized app that shows graphics but you will take a small performance hit for the graphics. There is no screensaver for the Linux version of Seti@Home. I didn't notice there were graphics for Linux now since I started using optimized apps in Windows before I made the switch to Linux myself (also with optimized apps). Good to know. |

There is no screensaver for the Linux version of Seti@Home. There *is* graphics on Linux (unless you run an optimized application which does not include the graphics for performance reasons). These graphics are exactly like what you would see as a screensaver, but they just do not start automatically. So if you want to run Linux you can have your "screensaver" but you just have to start and stop it manually. Jim Some people plan their life out and look back at the wealth they've had.
