FYI, I am have the same kind of problem (see text). BONIC will start and then suspend after a few minutes of working. If I was not watching, BONIC would stay suspended all day. It will reach point and then restart too.

Message 689398 - Posted: 7 Dec 2007, 19:24:37 UTC - in response to Message 689392.

I installed the optimized application from the linked site (according to their processor recommendations.) It does NOT seem to make a difference. SETI continues to restart and the time to completion on both active tasks continues to move farther away.

Here's the latest message stream following the reboot after installing the optimized app...

I don't think the Optimised App will kick in while those 2 WU's are still crunching. You may have to abort them and get some new ones.

BOINC is installed as at boot up as a service & single user. I am running Windows XP that is up-2-date.

The latest task result screen show one unit having jumped ahead to almost 16% completed. (It was less than 1 % before.) The other work unit has slid from around 8% complete to 2% complete.

How can a work unit move backwards?

Here's a continuation of the BOINC message stream...

Have you tried checking the Event log of your PC to see if there is anything there that matches up timewise with the "Restarts"?

In your situation, I would be tempted to try installing an optimised App (e.g. 2.4V Windows x32 SSE2 from here) and then aborting the current WU's just see the effect. Wouldn't answer the questions but might get you crunching again.

Seti hasn't completed a work unit in weeks. I have reset the project multiple times and updated twice during that period. The work units get to a little over 1% complete and then seem to stall out. Here is the latest batch of messages from BOINC manager.

@Mike,

Is Boinc set to suspend when you are active? If not, I don't understand the continual "restarting" of the WU's but if it is, then try allowing it to continue running whilst the computer is in use. It has the lowest priority and should not slow things down significantly.

F.

I have tried many PREFERENCES settings to no avail including...

Work on batteries ON & OFF (this is a desktop.)
Work while system busy ON & OFF.
Leave suspended WU in memory YES & NO.

The screen saver is not used and not loaded into memory (that I can see.)

Is BOINC installed as a service, single user, or multple user? Just a reminder for me, what OS are you running?

BOINC version is 5.10.28.

Eric is trying to chase this problem down, and is collecting specific information.

There is another thread that deals with constant restarts with more information there.

Seti hasn't completed a work unit in weeks. I have reset the project multiple times and updated twice during that period. The work units get to a little over 1% complete and then seem to stall out. Here is the latest batch of messages from BOINC manager.

@Mike,

These latest work units have been active for two days. One is 8% completed (hasn't moved in hours) and the other is less than 0.5% completed.

Is there any other program or service that is chewing up all your processor time? Or is the SETI science app getting all CPU power when idle?

The only two workunits I see in your account were downloaded on December 3rd. Depending on what your settings are (BOINC runs all the time or only when you're inactive? or if you leave your PC on all the time) will add to the length of time it takes to complete a workunit.

The two units currently in process were downloaded after yet another project RESET on my side. My PREFERENCES are set to run at all times and keep any suspended units in memory.

These latest work units have been active for two days. One is 8% completed (hasn't moved in hours) and the other is less than 0.5% completed.

I fully expect both of these work units to stall out today and show no progress after that.

@Mike,

Is Boinc set to suspend when you are active? If not, I don't understand the continual "restarting" of the WU's but if it is, then try allowing it to continue running whilst the computer is in use. It has the lowest priority and should not slow things down significantly.

Seti hasn't completed a work unit in weeks. I have reset the project multiple times and updated twice during that period. The work units get to a little over 1% complete and then seem to stall out.

The only two workunits I see in your account were downloaded on December 3rd. Depending on what your settings are (BOINC runs all the time or only when you're inactive? or if you leave your PC on all the time) will add to the length of time it takes to complete a workunit.

Message 686327 - Posted: 29 Nov 2007, 18:47:43 UTC - in response to Message 686321.

I have been a member since '04. I can`t see any new activity after May of '07. I went back yesterday and downloaded bionic software again, but don`t see any tasks or anything going on at all. I`m kind of a novice with this (Bionic pretty much ran itself for me). Can anyone help me with troubleshooting this problem. Thanks - Kenny

hi i had a very simaler issue i had put an address in the prefs list on my home computer not the one you sign in to go advanced then then look in options
hope its as easy for you good luck

Well, that wasn`t exactly it, but you pointed me in the right direction. I went into advanced and options and noticed that the box "connect through proxy server" was checked so I decided to uncheck because I know that Yahoo is always on. It worked and I`m now receiving work. Thanks for sending me in that direction.

Great im glad to have helped in this minor way
William

Thanks William - Happy hunting. I also started climate change and I`m glad that I can now help again.

Message 686275 - Posted: 29 Nov 2007, 16:22:41 UTC - in response to Message 686028.

This looks like a server side problem. I have already forwarded a different thread.

Well I read the Boinc Wiki but I didn`t get anything about my problem. What does this mean
11/28/2007 8:24:52 PM|SETI@home|Scheduler request failed: HTTP internal server error

I believe that the HTTP internal server error means that there is a problem at the server end of the connection.

Any suggestions on how to deal with this problem. I uninstalled Boinc and re-installed it hoping that would help and nothing. Should I just set up a new account and go from there?
