Of course it looks like MacNN will not have forum here do to the founder no longer being active.

I initiated a request to take over founder, but that will take mid January.

I just took over founder for the master "teams" yesterday (finally!). Our non-active founder (copied from the project) was being set up for all the new projects lately (more waiting to fix!). So at least we won't have this problem with new projects going forward.

In any case, Team MacNN already has a forum. Before we go creating more forums at 80+ projects all over the place, we should decide what to do as a team. This new feature could end up fragmenting our team, I think.

All of this is new and partly designed to correct many issues... Here at Seti it is being tested... It has not been avertised "publicaly."

So be cautious...

It does have many things that can help Teams in the future...

Message 682211 - Posted: 21 Nov 2007, 23:12:54 UTC - in response to Message 681741.

Here's snippets of the Boinc Alpha mail list from Dr. Anderson while this progressed over the last five days. I have skipped everyone elses emails, and hope to discern something useable from the "bosses" comments. This means it won't "flow" very well.

[quote]Alpha testers:

For those of you who like playing around with web features,
and who belong to or manage teams:

I added a new feature that lets a team founder create
a dedicated message board for the team.

Only team members can post to this, but anyone can read it.
Team admins have moderator rights.

Team admins can moderate the team message board.

Project moderators cannot.
The foundership-transfer mechanisms are not affected
by the new features.

A few questions:
1. What is a team admin and how does one get appointed/validate?
2. I made a founder transfer request in September. It has been pending, but today it switched to deferred. What does deferred mean? Effective date should be this week.
It's not too many computers, it's a lack of circuit breakers for this room. But we can fix it :)

The team founder can appoint "team administrator/s" via his/her account. I don't know if there's a limit to the number of administrators that can be appointed.

If it switched to "deferred", then I'd bet the founder "declined" your offer to take his/her position.

@Astro.

I noticed your post yesterday & on looking the canada board was not up.

On checking earlier today, I found it was & snagged 1st post. However, on checking a few minutes ago, the board is still there but no threads or post.

Are these team boards finalised or are they still in testing mode?

Sirius B, I just made a thread at the MB of Team Canada. There's a post there for you. It's the first post on the board. Do you see it?

[edit] I just threw your team a few hundred credits. I also checked here at your team page and see Zero Posts, Zero Threads, but clicking the "message board" link, I can see my post and thread. Also, it shows "new members last 24 hours" at Zero, and I KNOW I just joined. I do however appear in your "roll call" as a member with credits.

Since I was OH so bored, I notice that each fora had their own number. I also noticed if I changed the number that I could find other teams fora, so I made a directory, by manually changing the numbers. From 68 up to 80+ is blank, so I assume that's the upper limit of team fora already made. If you have a fora number higher than 68 or so, it'd be nice to know if they're hiding them elsewhere. Also, my test team is called "happy wallflowers" and sometime shortly after creating it a second number was spawned via some method, I see that's happened to Boinc Synergy and others. Anyway, Have fun with it. My wife just called and some chick just dropped her keys down a storm drain in her work parking lot and she want me to get them out. Gotta go

I just created mine for fora number 70: C.I.G.A.W.W.

I've just tried to post to both of my fora (#33 and #34). The second one seem to be navigated per default from my team page using the Message board link, the first one have to be entered by manually editing the URL, or using links in my test posts there.

I was able to create and cross-point threads and messages in these two fora and also to successfully move a post from one forum to another.

I am getting a "unable to handle request: Not visible" error when I try to view the team I founded but am not a member of.

Team Forums are now visible to members of that forums specific team only.

So if I found a team with an unsuspicious name and made my own forum about molesting children there, I'll be fine and nobody will bother me?

This whole feature only looks fine if you don't look too close at it. If teams want their own forum, simply start one off-project. In most ISP-contracts I came around some webspace was included. If you can't manage, let it be.

BOINC is going down the drain of becoming a social instead of a scientific network, some web2.0 junk. Wanna chitchat? Go to MySpace!

The project admins have the ultimate responsibility for the stuff on their servers, at least for the dozens projects with servers located in Germany, and probably on the whole EU. They have to monitor and moderate them, it's their duty. How can they possibly achieve this with thousands of hidden fora somewhere in the shady back rooms of the server?

Why do I appear to be the first poster in this thread?

It appears that all of Astro's posts have now been hidden !
