The download process is slow and intermittent. Hopefully everyone hass some wu's left in their cache so it isn't a problem at this time.

That's been happening to me occasionally on one of my machines (XP Pro, BOINC 5.4.11) lately. Not sure why, I've been stopping BOINC completely and restarting it and it seems to be fine after that (at least until the next time).

My temps are fine, no driver updates, but I haven't done a memory test yet. I guess that could be the problem.

[EDIT] just saw the other post on this by Shane, I don;t think I'm having the same issue as he is. [/EDIT]

Sounds like a linux rights issue to me, but you will need someone more au fait with linux than me to guide you. Meantime, if the system is being any more responsive for you than it is for me, try doing an "advanced search" on "linux rights" (without the quotes). I'm sure similar things have come up a number of times relatively recently.

May be a hung boinc executable in memory that is holding the port open. Make sure all copyies of BOINC that are in memory are killed. Then, restart BOINC.

Someone posted this a while ago and I saved it because I had the same proble with a 'sh' file:

open Konsole/console
navigate to the Desktop (Capital D)

Type sh boinc_5.10.18_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh(or whatever it's called, it must be Exact and have the .sh at the end)

that should create a folder named "BOINC" on the desktop

open folder, click on Boinc, then Boincmgr.exe

As far as I remember for the other part, go to Advanced tab, Select computer, and select localhost. Try searching the messageboards for linux help at the beginning of October. There was a thread that dealt with this.

[edit]Here is the thread. [edit]

What version of boinc did this get you?

apt-get install boinc-client boinc-manager worked for me... from ubuntu forums:

Other than this small tweak I followed your wiki and had 64bit boinc up and running in little time and my Boinc Manager connects to the Boinc-Client just fine.
