Those who are interessted in Core2 temps (and offsets) should read this guide from TomsHardware. Kiva Greetings from Norway Crunch3er & AK-V8 Inside |

CoreTemp, SpeedFan and Everest all agree on the temps. I'm thinking they are safe, but am still going to order a tube of Arctic Silver (unless anyone has a better suggestion). It's just a pain to re-do the thermal compound because the cooler is one of those screw-down jobs that requires pulling the MB to remove it. Boinc Button Abuser In Training >My Shrubbers< |

Batman, I think the title of the thread answers the cpu question. Oops, Me going blind I think from hiccups. :o My Amazon Wishlist The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Finally broke down and got some faster ram for my main Windows cruncher (DDR2 1000 instead of the 800) I am running, and decided to try and "crank it up" some. Running @ 3.0 GHz, I show a CPU temp of 55 and core temps of 67,66,65, and 63. Is this too hot?Which application are you getting the temperatures from? And what stepping is your Q6600? There is a problem which causes a 15C offset in reported temps among the different core temp reporting aps, and the same problem causes a 15C offset in reported temps by some aps between the two extant steppings. Aside from that there is a scatter of several degrees C just of random offsets of the sensor on a per-die basis. I'd venture based on your comments that you are reporting the higher of the two 15C offset possibilities for your core temps. If so lots and lots of folks are running hotter than you. Of course, we are raising the probability of failure by doing so, but, assuming your CPU voltage is moderate, I think you are taking pretty modest risk. I'm typing this comment on a Q6600 system running 3.006 GHz, with a commanded CPU voltage of 1.35V. PC Wizard 2007 reports a measured CPU voltage of 1.26V, processor temp of 50C, and Core temps of 65 to 71. Mine is a B3 step, so PC Wizard is reporting the 15C higher possibility. I actually use Speedfan 4.32 for monitoring, with hand-crafted temperature offsets based on measurement of my system. It reports I'm running 54C to 57C cores, in a room ambient of 26C. Caution: plenty of much-posted folk don't agree with my temperature reporting assessment. |

My QX6700 is at 3.36GHz and the cores are at 65-67C and the cpus is at 36C currently(Air/TEC cooling). I do have to improve the cooling as the NB is heating up too much(FSB is at 335MHz, Crashes at 337MHz or higher so far, Ram can go to 374MHz stable on another PC with a better NB cooling setup that I installed) and to do that I have to replace not only the NB heatsink(with an NC-U6 that I have), But the heatsink on the Mosfets(with an HR-09U that I have to buy) as their linked and I don't think I can remove only one. Oh and the ram is PC2-6400 ram that I'm using and is guaranteed to go higher than I running It at now by the maker. :D My Amazon Wishlist The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |
