If you want to get personal, use the PM system.

One more of these snide remarks, no matter by whom, and this thread will be closed for a clean-up. Nothing against heated discussions - but the boards don't need to be spammed by insults.

Actually, suggesting someone start a thread about black vs. white isn't calling an individual a racist....however, taking said comment that way and immediately going on the defensive...well, I think you catch my drift.

Point blank, everyone is prejudice against something and denial of that fact is not only a sign of cowardice, but lack of self-esteem as well.

Yes the arguement went too far.

My fault really for reacting.

Sorry people.

Sorry R/B.

I was just honestly interested in where SETI folk come from in terms of skills, education, background, etc...

Perhaps the word 'class' was not the best choice of words.

Crunchy, you're a nice person. I still enjoy reading what you have to say. I'm sure you yourself are really not a 'bigot'. I just disagree with most of your ideas. I'm sure you think most of mine are faulty and that's ok. Makes the world go around.

I shouldn't have been ill mannered to you and apologize for that. We can talk in private again soon if you choose. In any event, carry on!

Well, actually for me it was the right choice of words - but people are different, some just misunderstand things, some put more meaning into words than others - that's the risks of human communication.

Oh pant's. Actually the quote was:

Duh! Sounds like you're parroting what I told you from DAY ONE

People in America aren't as bigoted as you. Figure it out. .....Catch a clue. Get the wax out of your ears.

Brits are much more bigoted and the rest of the Euro weenies are even worse. I have doubts about your ability to reason morally. Have you thought even 5 minutes about how hateful and bigotted this thread is?

Next time make a thread about 'How inferior are blacks to white folks'...and be done with it.

It was not really a suggestion to create a new thread about black/white issues but a comparison between my use of the word 'class' and a concept of black /white issues (race) and bigotry.

It's a matter of how you wish to read it.

I obviously read it wrong if the majority of others are suggesting it was just an innocent suggestion devoid of it's context.

Again for that I am sorry.

Don't feel the need to apologize more. You apologized. I apologized. We're both grown men. I'm confident we are both not fragile enough to break out the hankies. :-P

Just carry on. I just don't like class distinctions. It's a matter of idealogical or world view differences.

I'm willing to bet that personally you wouldn't care if you were in a pub with day laborers or barristers. I know I don't.

King or beggar: When they are born and when they die, both are alike.

As for me: I don't look on titles or positions, on income or goods: I look on characters. And you can find good characters and nasty characters in each class and level, more or less.

Well according to observation it is not Age of Democracy rather it is Sophisticated Middle Age that whatever Constitutions say everybody is equal yet everybody feel that they belong to one of 3 traditional classes. (or majority clearly see and feel of their belonging of one of bottom two classes)

Most countries manage to dump their monarchs or monarchic influence but their class has quickly filled with naturally sophisticated (in many ways very possibly the outlaws) ones.

According to news and reports do scandinavians live with more less class difference compare to rest of constitutionalized "rich" & "poor" countries?

I would tend to agree with that Thorin. But I must admit, I'd rather have the money and live the life of a 'high class' rather than the poverty of a lower class. In that way they are not the same. Please let me win the lottery to find out :)

I admire your spunk! Despite your assertion that you have a talent for "messing" up, you remain steadfast. You are not unlike a certain historical figure here in the USA who "failed" his way to the highest office in the land and a spot of immortality in the history books: Abe Lincoln. Almost every business venture into which he entered failed. What most people think of those like him (without the fame) is that they are losers. But all that experience, if learned from, can lead to ultimate success!

It's mainly a matter of whether one keeps plugging away and not giving up. It certainly sounds like you are NOT giving up, and that makes you "high class" in my book!

Hm, I guess my family has some skill in screwing things up and I have inherited it.

Grand Grand father inherited two small businesses and several houses and land which would nowadays have value of several millions and managed to loose it all in inflation. Selling real estates in times of inflation - great idea :p

Grandpa was building motors for planes, had a good job and did not care much for building up an own business. We were discussing politics and stuff when I was a kid and I really miss him...

...Just telling all the stuff to show that life goes on. Crazy things happen in life, but you also need to take your chances. Plus - out of something bad something good can arise. You never know what surprise the life has for you, enjoy it as long as you can. And even if it's tough sometimes always remember that the most important thing in life is to be satisfied and not money. Envy just makes you dissatisfied - and look how many people of who you'd guess they have everything are dissatisfied because there is always someone who is richer, more powerful, better looking or whatever.

Yeah, the difference being that during their lifetime, one makes significant contributions to society (whether you agree with them or not) and the other did nothing but beg for hand-outs.

We ARE NOT all equal and it's about time some of you realized it.

Quite, the beggar does not go to the state for hand-outs, the monarch does (it's called the "Civil List" in the UK). The beggar may even play a musical instrument to entertain us on our journey through mass transit/public transport, the monarch gets free tickets to the theater to be entertained by a Royal Gala. I know which I'd prefer to be without.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

And yet here you still are doing little for society and contributing even less...

Translated as: You have something that we 'the collective' want, but we are to proud to ask you for it, and we are to selfish to pay you for it, and we are to ignorant to do it ourselves... Therefore, we get very angry with you... ;)
