Anyone else have a problem with your donation check not being cashed? Been a month so far. I hate checks that don't clear. :( I have never had an item lost in the mail. However every single rebate form that I have sent in gets "lost" everytime. I always have to send in the copies and wait another 3 months. lol

hmm... just noticed my donation star :) Hopefully my check will clear soon. :)

Is everyones program not working like mine? It says waiting for memory the past couple of days. :(

You should either add more RAM or change your RAM preferences.
It has never said it before and isn't saying it now. A bug I assume.

Not necessarily. If there wasn't enough RAM available (for any reason such as another app using a large chunk), then it would give that message.

I have to echo Ozz's post. I was having the same problem a few months ago. I went into my account, changed the settings, and I have never had that problem again. I only have 512MB right now, till I can buy more. But, it worked.

I PM'ed you still no word. Still no cleared check. I guess a year from now I will add it back into my account. :( Is everyones program not working like mine? It says waiting for memory the past couple of days. :(

I just PM'ed you PK..sorry for the delay. Been a tough week.

np. My waiting for memory finally finished. I thought it found a "Signal" was was trying to figure out what to do. lol

And at about this time (while you were posting) I finally received a "Waiting for Memory"... for another project.
Now if it were Seti@home, I would suspect the WU of giving me a not-so-subtle nudge of "Hey, you mentioned memory sticks, now pony up!"

...and since my account is Primarily card-based, I have no checks to write.

Haven't seen that myself; mostly 'connect' or 'http' errors.

I will wait another week first. I live far from CA so I forgot about mailing time. What info is needed when I inquire about it? name? address? amount?

Yes please PM ME any and all information related to the donation and I'll look into it further for you.

I made a donation a couple weeks ago...still waiting for that check to clear. ugh. I hate an outstanding check. This is why I never write them. How long before someone deposits it?

Contributing hardware is an interesting alternative. It's difficult to imagine how the front office could extract its % of that. OTOH we should all be happy that the school provides power, heat, air conditioning, and room for the project. Those services are essential and effectively funded out of the portion of cash donations not sent on to the project.
                                                                Joe

Unless 'they' say "Give me/us 'X' memory sticks out of 'Y' you receive."

The other thing SETI@Home gets by going through central donations: accountability. No one can accuse them of cashing a check and then using it for personal gains.

I know the vast majority of us wouldn't care (and in fact some have sent money earmarked as "party money") but it only takes one wackadoo to create much legal hassle.

You mean all 'non-allocated' money doesn't automatically default to Party Money?

They don't have enough money available to have any that is needed for something to keep the project running.

There are a few factors to remember about SETI and donating. First off, donating with a CC, there is automatically a percentage taken by the CC company. Now your $10 donation is approximately $9.75. Second, you are donating actually to the whole school Berkeley when you donate to SETI, so they take a percentage (of which I heard varying amounts), now your $9.75 is cut even more. So the bookkeeping for a small amount is nearly not worth it. Anything less than $10, and it's definitely not worth it.

True. For best choice in removing the "middle man", just write a check for your donation amount and mail to to SETI. I believe there is a check option on the donation web page. That at least cuts out the credit card companies and PayPal.

I believe that the rules still require a check to go through the central donations office. Their overhead is pretty low but I don't think you can avoid it completely.
