I've never had a problem loading or playing your videos. Even before I upgraded my connection speed from 768 kb/s to 3000 kb/s.

btw, Thank you for making that website. I've spent many hours watching interesting videos there.

MrG is butt-kickingly cool.

Thanks all!

I switched from Cable to DSL because of the nice price break, and get:

2109 kbps down
432 kbps up

Ran this test while on my wireless.

$20/month is better that $50/month, for me. :)

So ... do the speeds we've shown help MrG answer his question?
I generally only have trouble viewing vids he links to when on wireless.
That doesn't mean everytime I'm on wireless.
Also, there are only certain ones that I try to watch.

So far I've only seen comments from the folks with good to great speeds.

I am concerned about those who are on slow connections so I can find out for myself and other members if posting videos and large file size pictures kills the forums for some, but enjoy the conversations in here and think it is nice to compare the net speeds of the planet.

My thanks to all and to Sarge for asking this question.

To San Francisco:

To San Jose:

To Los Angeles:

To Perth Australia:

To Sydney Australia:

To London:

My Perth connection sucks compared against DB's; however, the rest of my tests are on par. I threw in Sydney to see if I'd make it there after how badly my connection to Perth sucked... Sydney seems ok. NOTE: I am on Comcast Cable Broadband in the City of Danville, California.

I think only one or two people have mentioned slow connections (like dialup) in the past few months. No matter what you post, MrG, there's plenty of stuff out there ... on webpages they might wish to check from day to day ... that those people would have trouble with. Frankly, besides the entertainment, I must use the internet for work communication and research, etc ... . I would refuse to ever go back to a slow connection. If at all possible, I do, and will continue to do so, get a decent/fast connection and accept the costs that come with it.

It's tough sometimes,

Younger people on set, low incomes, or people who live out away from the city sometimes have no choice. My threads are a mixed bag of nuts, to say the least, so I don't want to fool myself into believing any of my data is worth looking at, but for the community, it's good to know what people can actually use. Each web community is different. Looks like our is pretty advanced, blessed, and privileged, so far.

I don't want to make people on slower connection feel left out in any way.

Grad students aren't privileged in a monetary sense.

Don't I know it! I'm a research post-grad doing my PhD. I'm lucky that I get a scholarship, but it isn't that much, so I live on a tight budget. Luckily, my girlfriend (who is doing a research masters at the same uni) got her Permanent Residency and is now a domestic student (instead of international) and got a scholarship to do an accelerated masters.

Between the two of us we manage to live alright. But we don't have lots of money so we are very careful with our budget.

Never surrender and never give up. In the darkest hour there is always hope.
