Message 630466 - Posted: 31 Aug 2007, 23:31:06 UTC

Actually at home right now (I usually don't come in on Fridays - for my own sanity). Still, just for the record even when I'm not in the lab I do check in from time to time and I noticed we were draining work. So before the queue ran to zero I started more splitters. This is good and bad: we're filling the ready-to-send queue, but at the expense of throttling the work we are able to send out. So be it. I'm keeping my eyes on it (when taking breaks from cleaning out my basement) so don't fret...

Good to hear it, but enjoy your life outside of IT also!

I also can work from home. Much better to let the electrons do all the commuting. Saves my time! But beware 24 hour working!!

Hang in there and keep it smooth!

(And should you clear out your junk? Or should you keep it for whatever 'rainy day'?...)

Regards,
Martin

Keep those splitters going. You got a giant group of crunchers coming over for September.

It looks like you either have or are in the process of downloading work for all of your systems.

I've successfully downloaded 15 out of 16 Results in the last 8 hours.

We've been warned of download delays.

Just let BOINC do it's thing and have a nice weekend. (Do NOT Abort the downloads or Reset the Project!)

I'm getting "system connect" problems on one of my computer and have had that problem on it now for almost 24 hours. My other comp seem to be getting wu's.

It worked perfectly for 4-5 days before and I've tried everything I can to fix it with no luck.

There's right now 4 WU's in queue to be downloaded but nothing happens. Have asked in Q&A but no real help there.

If there's a short delay I have no problem with it but it's now been, as I said, almost 24 hours.

If your system's completely idle, you can always connect to another project to get some work. Seti has stated that they will not always have work available.

But why is it trying to download work without succeeding?

When you get back to work could you possibly look at this please, for several days I have been having trouble getting work units to download and the attached message are typical it takes an extremely long time once a WU is allocated to download it, sorry its so long but I have had the same problem over the past week. Thank you in advance but there is no hurry enjoy whats left of your weekend.

I've managed to get those 4 WU's I had in queue downloaded.

I manually hit "Retry now" a few times with each one of them until they got downloaded.

I did notice one thing... whenever it tried for up to half a minute it failed and it went back to countdown for the next try... if it did try for about 45 secs or more the download commenced and finished.

So to me it seems that the client just doesn't try long enough to get the WU's downloaded.

If your system's completely idle, you can always connect to another project to get some work. Seti has stated that they will not always have work available.

there is work available, we just can't download it. thanks for for your input...

It looks like you either have or are in the process of downloading work for all of your systems.

I've successfully downloaded 15 out of 16 Results in the last 8 hours.

We've been warned of download delays.

Just let BOINC do it's thing and have a nice weekend. (Do NOT Abort the downloads or Reset the Project!)

aborting the downloads helps rectify the sistuation, i was able to download the new work units. now this morning the computer has hung on the new workunit downloads.

Now if you were a Mac you wouldn't have this problem, seems their timmer is set longer.

But why is it trying to download work without succeeding?

There is ongoing discussion about this in NC, see the 21 second timeout thread for more info.

EDIT...Oooops, RandyC, I missed your link to the thread. Sorry.

That used to work for me, too. It hasn't lately. I've had WUs stuck trying to download for DAYS and hitting retry doesn't help, either. This machine managed to run completely out of work, despite having five projects active. I managed to fiddle with the client to get it do download some Einstein WUs.

Hitting retry doesn't work for me any longer either. This is extremely annoying.

Increased the work buffer and watched how it tried by itself. Two of the wu's got past the 21 seconds but didn't start to recieve anything until after 2 min 30 secs.

There might be a problem with BOINC but to me this suggests an issue on the server side as well, it shouldn't take this long to send them out, should it?

Hammering on the "Reset Project" button about a hundred times in the space of a half hour finally got a WU to download for me, and crunching underway.

Hell of a way to run a project.
