Just looked at his hosts again. He shows to have two results downloaded on his computer. According to his account, he has downloaded a total of 4 workunits as of today (Aug 27, 2007). Two were downloaded around 18:00 UTC and the other two were downloaded roughly four hours later. |

Just out of pure curiosity, did anyone find out exactly who Rick emailed? He didn't mention it in his PM to me. Why not PM him and ask, pointing out you are one of the forum moderators? Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes. |

Just out of pure curiosity, did anyone find out exactly who Rick emailed? I didn't want to inundate him with too many PMs from too many people. I just figured if someone knew, they'd share. |

Just out of pure curiosity, did anyone find out exactly who Rick emailed? Good point. He just PMd me within the past hour. He said he's got things working now, as we've seen. He also said something about a "full format." A reformat?!? Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes. |

Hey there Guys! I PM'ed Rick last night and here is his response of 2 hours ago. Let's help the guy out. Above you will see that he was able to contact the server several times. He also states that he is using Version 5.4.11 But message says he is using 5.10.13 the current version of BOINC. I can see no problems either. Bob What you do today you will have to live with tonight |

I am going to guess he downloaded the newest ... stock? He'd also mentioned formatting, so maybe he did a reformat ... ? ... then downloaded the newest BOINC app? Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes. |

Near the top of his log he has a line including the text "Computer ID: not assigned yet" and the computer now showing on his account shows as being created yesterday. I wonder if his computer lost its ID somewhere? Glad Rick is back crunching though. |

So, who does one send email to, when one has a problem? I don't think there is any support via E-Mail. There is a Q&A message board and I believe it is expected that you'll check back for an answer. There is also a "help line" that uses Skype -- so you can talk to someone (if you have Skype, of course). That's manned by volunteers. |

The Boinc Helpers board uses both Skype and Email. I don't always have my mic plugged in or boot skype, but have users email me a few times a day. |

Near the top of his log he has a line including the text "Computer ID: not assigned yet" and the computer now showing on his account shows as being created yesterday. I was going to point out the same thing, LesC - GREAT Catch! 8-D So, everyone/anyone what about this mysterious "Computer ID: not assigned yet"...???... 27/08/2007 18:29:50||Starting BOINC client version 5.10.13 for windows_intelx86 27/08/2007 18:29:50||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 27/08/2007 18:29:50||Libraries: libcurl/7.16.1 OpenSSL/0.9.8e zlib/1.2.3 27/08/2007 18:29:50||Data directory: C:Program FilesBOINC 27/08/2007 18:29:50||Processor: 2 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz [x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 9] 27/08/2007 18:29:50||Processor features: fpu tsc sse sse2 mmx 27/08/2007 18:29:50||Memory: 511.00 MB physical, 1.22 GB virtual 27/08/2007 18:29:50||Disk: 232.82 GB total, 69.06 GB free 27/08/2007 18:29:50|SETI@home|URL: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID: not assigned yet; location: (none); project prefs: default 27/08/2007 18:29:50||General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 2006-07-11 15:41:41) 27/08/2007 18:29:50||Host location: none 27/08/2007 18:29:50||General prefs: using your defaults 27/08/2007 18:29:50||Reading preferences override file 27/08/2007 18:29:50||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 255.50MB 27/08/2007 18:29:50||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 459.90MB 27/08/2007 18:29:50||Preferences limit disk usage to 9.31GB Color added for ease of review... Note the red highlighted portion stating clearly that no CPID has been assigned... Begs to question; how many reformats has Rick performed on this machine? Was this the cause of his initial attempts to connect resulting in failure? Since others here are stating that he now has WUs in queue; then, has a new CPID been successfully assigned as well? To whomever is PM-ing Rick, can you get him to answer the above questions along with "is everything ok now?" [EDIT:] From what I find when I click on his name; his ID seems to be: 3736164 ...And, from that ID there now seems, (on August 30,2007 at 2:55PM - PDT), to be 11 WUs assigned to that ID... [/EDIT.] [EDIT-2] Also; from this completed and credit granted WU, I find that he indeed is using BOINC 5.4.11 - NOT 5.10.13... Any reason he's not using the latest BOINC flavor? TL, Pawly and I had PMd him, but I am sure there'd be no problem if you contacted him yourself. Let me know if you'd prefer otherwise. (PM thru Calm Chaos?) Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes. |

Hello every one just thought I would pop in and talk about what was going on with Boinc. It kept telling me that I did not have a Default Connection, but I do not need one as im Broadband, so for over 6 weeks I could not get on line, I did try to reinstall but this made no difference. I tried every thing I no but just could not get it sorted out, so I gave up, and then I received your Messages with all your support I got it worked out still having some trouble but I have not gone. The trouble now is it stays connected to local host and will not disconnect. Downloads are taking for ever to download. The trouble now is it stays connected to local host and will not disconnect. Hi Rick, Don't worry about the "Connected to localhost" message at the bottom of the client window. Supposed to be like that. If you connect to other machines in your network, that changes, otherwise its fine. There's no work at the moment, I think - so the "No work from project" message is common for everyone. Once the Splitters are working again, it'll come to us all. Downloads have been a problem. I think that's mainly sorted; I've certainly had no problems for the last 24 hours or so, but there may still be some issues. Not sure if there may be problems with specific workunits, or if its just general - not enough of an expert there (or at all, in reality!!). From the messagees I see, all looks fine at your end. The Scheduler is acknowledging you, but there's nothing coming back in terms of work (as above). The download issue may be common, or connection-speed related (timeouts etc); not sure. There may be a firewall blockage too. I can't see a reason to be accessing the reference site. As always in this though, be patient; wait for someone brighter than me to assist, and keep on trying!! Works for me! Steve. |

Why the latest? I use 5.9.0.64 by Crunch3r on all 3 of My PCs. Oh and 5.10.13 has caused errors, So I went back to 5.9.0.64.. I haven’t been happy with the behaviour of v5.8.17 on my work/test system, so most of my Macs are still on v5.4.9. |
