OOPS, sorry I hadn't seen any of your calls for help. Before you throw in the towel, can you give us a chance to take a look at it now?

Even though there have been problems getting through to the project off and on over the whole summer, something is definitely not right here. The fact you can post here shows you should be able to connect and get work once we figure out what went wrong.

I'm going to assume you have tried resetting, detaching/reattaching etc.. So as a start, if you could fire up BOINC fresh and then copy/paste the contents of the message tab here, that would be helpful to get started troubleshooting.

Rick-

Don't run sooo quick.

Give us some details as to what your problem & setup are.

I don't see any results from any of the 4 instances of the apparently single host.

Yeah, I saw his post over in Q & A. I think he misunderstood what the Live Help Desk forum was all about when he posted there a month ago. I almost check in there or I'd have steered to one of the others. (give self slap on head and make note to self to look more often).

Hope he checks back in one of these before giving up entirely.

If you've not got your answers elsewhere, do you want to say what the problem is and see if we can help?

His 5 posts do not state the problem. Perhaps someone should PM him and ask the problem. Hopefully, Rick will see an e-mail that he has a private message and then respond to it. I'm sure we can put him in touch with someone helpful.

So, who does one send email to, when one has a problem?

edit: It's like when you need to call a company for help. Generally it is not possible to talk to a real person, easily, if ever. And if you ever get one, they just read from a script.

I don't know who you might have been trying to email, because there isn't an email help system here at SETI. (If there was, the half-dozen or so staff would not have any time to answer anyway.)

Now that you've found (almost - this is 'Getting started') the correct place to ask for help, would you like to do so?

Perhaps you could outline the problem for us, and maybe fire up BOINC so you can copy the first few lines from the 'Mesages' tab.

[Edit] I see that you have posted exactly the same message in several forums here. Asking just once, in the correct place would have sufficed.

Since the duplicate over in 'Number crunching' has attracted the most replies, I'll leave this to them...

Help with what? All the comms are going through successfully. The project reports that it is out of work. This is not a problem on his end.

[quote]Hey there Guys! I PM'ed Rick last night and here is his response of 2 hours ago. Let's help the guy out.

Hi Pawly.

As he has net access, I don't think it's a connection problem - It may be software.

Just pm'ed Rick to request what programs/firewalls etc he has running.

Hi Sirius, Kong and Champ!

I have sent him a PM letting him know not to worry. I had a feeling it was nothing but wanted to check with you N.C. Guys!

What's got me wondering, is that I've not had any trouble getting work today. Has anyone gotten a no work message that reliably? I also don't see where he's gotten the setiahome 5.27 intelx86 application file. Ask him if that's still "download pending"? It might be a firewall not allowing EXE's to download.

Also, have him check the boinc manager "activity" menu to make sure it's set to "run always" and "network always available".

I also don't see where he's gotten the setiahome 5.27 intelx86 application file.

On a new installation I don't believe it downloads the application until it downloads it's first work unit. It has to have the work unit to tell which application it needs to run it (in case there *is* more than one application, which in this case there isn't.)

You could have him test if it's a seti only problem by attaching to another project, and see how that goes.

As of when?
I thought he said last night he has not been able to connect to the project for about a month? Of course, I see the parts where it says no work from project.
Pawly, thanks. I also PMd him. You saw the response first. Thanks for being another poster that helps posters! :)
