Sorry folks, but this won't do.

There is only too obviously something wrong at the Berkely end, when I am on-lione for well over an hour now, and the BOINC programme at my end just can't pick up any work, and keeps re-cycling.

Here is a sample from my message tab:

Something, somewhere has gone very pear-shaped, and needs fixing.

Please get on to it?

Yes there is a problem....

But you know, Berkeley doesn't work 24 hour shifts. It's 9.25 am there and I'm sure someone is now looking at the problem.

However, try not to post in multiple threads.....it becomes difficult to respond to your concerns....

It still isn't working.
As I type this I've got SIX (6) downloads trying to operate, and none of them are working, and I can't just sit on-line waiting in the mostly vain hope that something might happen.

I realise you have limited resources, but this really does need fixing.

At the moment SETI is running mostly on donated hardware and there are only a couple of members of staff trying to fix the problem. The total staff is about 6 or 7.

The servers will be up and running, however it is difficult to give a timeframe.

Meanwhile, you can attach to additional BOINC projects details of which can be found here, here, and here.

I don't want to attach to other projects - this is the important one - or have you got so many customers now, that pissing off a few, and losing them is so unimportant that you don't care?

I'm sure that pissing off customers is not on the projects mind. However, this is not a commercial service like an ISP or Amazon or Microsoft. They have limited financial and hardware resources and are trying their best.....

There are just 2 members of staff out of a total of 6 or 7 trying to fight the fire.

You can read what one of the project staff had to say yesterday about the problem.....Matt

My sincere suggestion is that, if it's costing you money to dial-in, and you don't want to crunch another project, it would be better to stay off-line for few days.

Keep looking at the forum, especially the Technical News and Number Crunching forums for a status update on the resolution of the problem.

They're not trying to piss off anyone. They have problems once in a while and all they ask is for patience and understanding. If people become so irate over a volunteer effort, they cannot help that. They are doing the best they can with what they have.

Message 621168 - Posted: 17 Aug 2007, 17:23:21 UTC

Running Win XP Service pack 2, BOINC 5.10.13, attached to climate prediction, Einstein & Seti. Downloads finally started on one computer but not on the other. Seti work units that do download have the clock running up instead of down to completion and no work is being done. Haven't had probs before of this nature. Been running Seti for nearly 6 years.
My message tab has the same messages as Post Message #619615. Any suggestions? Thx.

Exit BOINC and restart it. Normally the problem workunit should exit.

If that doesn't work then suspend it for the time being. There are a number of these problem workunits that have been sent out in the last couple of days.

Take a look at this thread.....Work Unit Problem

As far as the messages you've mentioned, because of this stuck workunit problem and a network bottleneck, work is very slow at the moment.....Post by Matt

Exiting BOINC doesn't help. Aborted problem workunits. Under preferences, changed the default for on multiprocessor systems from at most 16 to 1. Also cleared the ck box for confirm before connecting to internet.
Both computers running BOINC properly now.
Thx for your reply to post.
