Ya know Rev, you gotta chill a bit.

I wouldn't even give him the honor of being called "Reverend". He's posted before and he likes to stir the pot (a.k.a. a troll). Look at his post history and see the havok he likes to cause. No Reverend I know likes to cause this much dissension. Most preach peace, patience and kindness.

OTOH, he does have a point about not getting WU downloads... since the "work started flowing again", I haven't been able to download a single file from SETI Central... On one computer, I need a full set of files, on others, I just need WU's. He just needs to realize (as I do...) that computer projects, run on a shoestring, will sometimes have major problems...

and we all tackled getting the new multibeam client out. So the Windows version has been released, in case you haven't noticed.

I've noticed something in the graphics for a MB WU: The Frequency Graph box had signal information 'hanging over the edge' of the cube. This was in the beginning of the analysis, when the Signal is shown as the larger 'blocks' of color.

This is a carry-over from "linefeed" - this was happening with 5.15, also. (it just wasn't as noticeable, due to the WU's processing in less time)

Very true.

At least you can admit that you need to realize something. Many people would rather delude themselves into thinking they already have the answers.

Anyone have an idea what is going on I have 60 or so WU stuck in the downloading state since 2 AM EDT.

Prior to that I ran out of work then it started the downloads but they are as I said stuck.

Thanks
Hank

Last night I had 63 stuck in the download state. I just checked and now have 11. Give it time ... they will come.

I had one that wouldn't download. Since my two completed units had uploaded and been acknowledged, I increased my "Maintain enough work for an additional" setting to see if I could get a couple more. They downloaded immediately. Then, I aborted the download of the one that was stuck, so that my computer stops asking for it, and went back to my defaults (always connected, one day of additional work).

if my ISP was down as much as you guys I would have been out of business year ago!!

Rev. Tim Olivera

So much for patience as a virtue. If you paid these guys as much as you pay your ISP then your rant might have a little validity. As you pay ZILCH to them except when the mood strikes, they darned well work a heck of a lot harder for each dollar than your ISP does. Why not tithe to SETI to help increase their funding so they can staff up and work with only new equipment?

simply 'stay connected' and let Berkeley do it's thing - it takes it's time (for the time being) - but OH . . . what the heck

uploads / downloads are doin' THEIR thing and all by themselves . . . @ least here they are

Here's an interesting message:

8/14/2007 7:19:57 AM|SETI@home|Message from server: (reached daily quota of 2 results)

I checked my preferences and don't see any thing about a daily quota?

Also, my project status shows no comms for 20+ hours....

Any ideas?

The daily quota is not a preference. Each cpu is limited to 100 units/day. And is decreased by 1 for each error. You have lots of download errors.

The good part of this tale is that the quota is doubled for each successful returned unit.

Thanks for the info. I've been running seti for a while and have never seen that message. I have had many, many download errors the last few days. So I'll just wait for the comms timer expire and see what happens.

Thanks for the fast reply!

What will happen is almost certainly another 2 errors, and another 24 hour wait, repeated ad infinitum until/unless you get to the bottom of whatever is causing the errors.

The couple I checked said:
app_version download error: couldn't get input files:
<file_xfer_error>
  <file_name>setiathome_5.27_windows_intelx86.exe</file_name>
  <error_code>-200</error_code>
</file_xfer_error>
, which suggests to me that a firewall (hardware or software) is blocking the downloading of the new executable. That's a first place to look, anyway: post any further problems in Number crunching and you'll find lots more people ready to help.
