hi i am fairly new to this site and i am having a problem, i have 4 projects ready to report but my messages show i have not been connecting to site to download since the 8th and so i cant seem to send in the data can someone please tell me whats happened and happening now and how to fix this if i need to do the fixing....thanks

Which OS are you running? I use Linux and in your case I would start the BOINC manager and update the project. I start only the client in order to give all CPU to my project(s) and only when I have completed a WU I start the manager for a short time.

It may be a similar situation to the answer I gave in number crunching a few days ago. I can't check yours out tonight, because the CPDN servers are down all weekend for server-room electrical work (see? It happens to other projects too!).

If that reply doesn't seem appropriate, ask again in Number Crunching - better there, than in this area which is dedicated to news from Berkeley.

Check out the 'no work from project' thread in NC. Right now WUs are a bit hard to come by. Is this going to get better any time soon?? Otherwise the kitties are gonna be forced to choose another project to chew on.

and we all tackled getting the new multibeam client out. So the Windows version has been released, in case you haven't noticed.

I've noticed something in the graphics for a MB WU: The Frequency Graph box had signal information 'hanging over the edge' of the cube. This was in the beginning of the analysis, when the Signal is shown as the larger 'blocks' of color.

I am having the same issue. I have just swapped a new PC into my network and I cannot get it to pick up any work units.

thankyou my pc needed that reboot now i need to wait for tasks to download which they seem to be having trouble however i will give that a day or 2 to see if it sorts itself out thankyou again your help was appreciated

So two $3,000.00 new computer system have been on and ready to do work for seti if you could keep your just running and servering that work you think we might even find something. Why in the heck should I keep running system if you can't keep a server servering that work to me?? Simple question, I have asked it before. And the way you guys run thing I will ask it agian! But if my ISP was down as much as you guys I would have been out of business year ago!!

Seti is NOT a business and they state quite clearly they cannot deliver work all the time. Its the reason why BOINC was started so you could attach to other projects, which Seti encourages, if you want to keep your cpu warm 100% of the time.

SETI is a research project run on a 'shoestring' budget,especially given the volume of data pumped out. Participation is voluntary. To suggest that the team at SETI has some obligation to be up 100% of the time is pretty churlish.

The difference is you pay your ISP and so have a right to expect a level of service - how can you demand that SETI be up all the time?

But if you wanto help out perhaps you should make a donation via the SETI website to the project? ;)

Ya know Rev, you gotta chill a bit.
There are few around here that have and are spending more money and time then myself playing the Seti crunching circuit.
Nobody told me to spend what I have on my computers, and nobody said I had to donate cash to the cause.
It has become a hobby for me, and I get just as frustrated as anybody else when Seti has problems with their servers not being able to dish up work as fast as my rigs can crunch it. I get over it.
This is not a business. It is a research project with a very limited budget that has had the good graces of some benefactors (Sun, Intel) that have made some very hearty donations to their cause.
I can totally understand your frustration when the hardware you have purchased is not able to get work when it needs it. Been there, done that. And I have complained about it on occaision too. But I understand that there are things that happen that are beyond the immediate control of Matt and Eric. They do a great job of trying to keep things on track, as well as deal with the misfortunes that well up from time to time.
Things are progressing nicely with the release of the new MB WUs and apps, and the new Chicken optimized apps. I am certain that the server dragons will be tamed sooner or later, and all will continue to progress.
And if you want to improve the output of your computers, you may want to consider installing the Chicken optimized applications! There are many here who would be happy to help you if you are not familiar with them.
