Yesterday afternoon we were visited by many students who work with Dan Werthimer on the CASPER project. We made them analyze all the dozens of random server pieces (cases, motherboards, memory, disks, CPUs, power supplies...) that have been recently donated and try to assemble them into useful machines. They ultimately were able to only get one fully working system, and even that had only half a case. We'll probably use that system as a CASPER dedicated web server. Among these students was Daniel who is off to grad school soon so we're finally revisiting the work he did with us on web-based skymaps. We don't want that effort to go to waste (this side project languished as all parties got too busy with other things). The database eventually recovered after we tweaked the right parameter. We were back in business by the end of the day, except one of the assimilators is still failing on a particular record in the database (one we'll probably end up needing to delete) and we still haven't been able to build up a results-to-send queue. Jeff returned today and we all tackled getting the new multibeam client out. So the Windows version has been released, in case you haven't noticed. A Linux version, and a working Mac version (should be recompiled eventually) are also available. This client will chew on classic work until multibeam data becomes available. Speaking of that, Jeff and I are working on the splitter now. We actually fired one up, and a few hundred multibeam workunits went out to the public, but we're still doing work on the automation backend and otherwise, so don't expect a flood of new work just yet. Besides, we really should get the formal press release in order before we dive all the way into the new data. That's great news about MultiBeam! Another major milestone for SETI science. |

Matt, I have a bunch of quads that are out of work. They keep getting the following message. Hi Matt, a rather important question that I've not got definitive information on - what's the new stock multiplier? Right now, our info says 2.8 (vs. 3.35 for stock til now and 3.81 for MB on Beta). Is this correct? Without this info, we can't (won't, actually) release MB apps, so it'd be neat to have ;o) Thanks, Simon. Donate to SETI@Home via PayPal! Optimized SETI@Home apps + Information |

Matt, The "why" can be found at this address: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_status.html Actually what you are interested in is the following: sah_splitter1 kosh Disabled sah_splitter2 klaatu Disabled sah_splitter3 penguin Disabled sah_splitter4 kang Disabled Results ready to send 0 0m Current result creation rate 0.10/sec 0m This is why you get "no work from project" messages. |

Matt, It is better now (4.43 results per second compared to 0.10 results per second), but kang's splitter is still down. I guess that is why we are still getting no work from project messages. |

Matt, I'm still having the same problem with a couple of my systems. All but two are getting work just fine. http://www.teamstarfire.org/ |

I had two WUs that had been hung up trying to download for hours. And the computer wouldn't request more. So, on a hunch, I deleted the two that wouldn't download and what do you know? The computer started requesting work units again. Took a while to get some, but it's crunching again and requesting more work as well. Check and see if you have this problem, as well. It was a simple fix, but one that required that I be at the effected computer. |

So, and this is perhaps a question to which I should know the answer. Are the multibeam clients the 5.10.18 (Wind) and 5.10.17 (Mac) clients located at: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php Thanks Jeff returned today and we all tackled getting the new multibeam client out. So the Windows version has been released, in case you haven't noticed. A Linux version, and a working Mac version (should be recompiled eventually) are also available. It was a simple fix, but one that required that I be at the effected computer. Reported as a BOINC bug here. See also trac ticket 366. Actually, I don't think we're going to see much more of this one: now that the initial replication has been cut to two, there won't be any redundant results to be cancelled by the server. |

So, and this is perhaps a question to which I should know the answer. No. Those are BOINC clients, which manage the system and the communications with the servers for every project you're participating in. The term 'multibeam' refers to a science application, specific to SETI@home. It will be downloaded automatically by your current version of BOINC as and when needed. |

This is probably a dumb question BUT, do we need to download the new MB client (windows) or is it automatically upgraded? If we have to download it does it wipe out whatever we are presently doing? You don't have to do anything. It's upgraded automatically and you're allready using it ;) Join BOINC United now! |

I hope soon we will be able to download new WU !!! At this time, all my systems are requiring together ( not at the same time ) about 34,000,000 seconds of work, but The past 2 days i receive totally about 250,000 ( 4 WU ) . Less than 1 percent !!! Some of my systems are now waiting from monday !!! What happen ??? When can we hope WU again ??? It seems all server are working ( exept 1 splitter and the fixing missing results ). |

Does "Blame Misfit" make it into the press release? As long as there is no 'NDA'. Long time no see..... IAS - Where Space Is Golden! |
