The problems are still related to the server problems. Up- and downloads are only sometimes working. In the moment some of my WU downloads stock...

Yes, in a period when result downloads were getting repetitions but eventually succeeding, I had one machine trying to get 5.27 that did not get it for at least two days. As another person has suggested here, I got around it by installing KWSN.

Any ideas?

The link appears not to be listed in any of the posts. Would someone be kind enough the link to Optimized Apps and/or KWSN

You only missed it by two lines.

If you be bored do this:

Download file http://koti.mbnet.fi/~amon/files/setiathome/setiathome_5.27_windows_intelx86_files.zip

Unzip missing files one by one to C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\projects\\setiathome.berkeley.edu

Select missing file from BOINC and click retry

Blurf,

I'm sorry to have to say this, but ... it would, wouldn't it?

Chicken 2.4 IS the optimised version of Berkeley's 5.27 application: it's designed to be quicker!

If your laptop is reporting that it's still crunching with 5.17, there are two possibilities:

1) that you are still crunching a very large cache, and these are WUs which you downloaded before you upgraded from Chicken 2.2B to Chicken 2.4 (WUs stay 'tagged' with the version you were using when you downloaded them), or

2) you were an 'early adopter', and downloaded one of the very first copies of Chicken 2.4: in his haste to get things distributed in the early hours of whichever morning it was, Simon forgot to update his app_info.xml files to reflect the new Berkeley version number. It's been fixed now.

Anyway, why not put Chicken 2.4 on the other two boxes? Vista is the only show-stopper that I'm aware of, and you're running XP on all of them. If you upgrade using a fresh download (with the correct app_info.xml file), you won't trash any work in progress tagged 5.27

I have build binaries for the new multibeam applications for HP-UX (11i V.1..V.3) on PARISC 32 bit, 64 bit and IA64. Till Stefan has not put them on his website, the binaries are available from my site.
Other platforms following asap...

HPUX 11.0 PARISC 32 bit, 64 bit and Linux IA64 binaries ready to use.
More ports for other platforms following asap...

NetBSD i386 binaries are available now, too.
Also a new frontpage with links to all binaries is now avaiable : www.dotsch.de/seti .

Yes, I can see from your results that all machines are optimised - they are all running/reporting back Chicken 2.4 in the result reports.

Where are you seeing this 5.27 download that's worrying you?

My understanding is if you have Chicken 2.4, then the Seti 5.27 was NOT supposed to autodownload....that's what I'm curious about

I'll have a guess!

On 13 Aug you had the initial version of v2.4 installed which had the slightly odd app_info file which marked WUs as belonging to the v5.17 stock app. I'm guessing that when the stock v5.27 became available Boinc thought your v2.4 (marked as v5.17) was out of date and so downloaded the stock v5.27 app.

If you had installed the second v2.4, with a corrected app_info file that marked WUs as v5.27 (or manually edited your app_info file), then Boinc would not have complained.

I deliberately ran a couple of days of WUs with the stock v5.27 app (for later comparison of the performance) so I missed the first issue of the v2.4, and I haven't had any trouble with the second issue of v2.4 which I installed on the day of release.

A little question about the chicken 2.4, it says the it´s based on S@H 5.15 still. Is this correct and could someone tell me why now when 5.27 is the off. app and even chicken 2.4 is reported as 5.27.

I may be of some help here. The 5.15 was the first "Enhanced" application released here, and there's nothing fundamentally different between it and the new multibeam application. The "standard" SETI, v4.xx was an entirely different code set. So Multibeam is just a modification (minor revision) of the "Enhanced" code base. This is the reason for the jump in major numbers from 4 to 5 when Enhanced was released, but the major number hasn't changed from "Enhanced" to "Multibeam" because they use the same code base, with just minor revisions, ie the jump from 5.15/5.17 etc. to 5.27.

As to the Chicken 2.4, this is "his" version number for the 5.27 code, only modified to make use of specific instruction sets on different computers. It still must report itself as 5.27 to SETI to inform SETI that it "is" an up to date version.

Thanks the last part that it has to report itself as 5.27 I understod. My concern was that I have got the wrong chicken so it still was 5.15 and not MB ready.

Well keep in mind it's not a matter of the old apps being incompatible with the MB data in a way which would mess up the science or anything like that.

It's a matter in keeping in the spirit of a level playing field with regard to scoring which requires the update.

So if it's only a matter of finding the time or getting access to the host which slowing you down, I wouldn't sweat it too much and just take care of it as soon as it's convenient.

Here are the new Alex Kan Seti Apple (Mac) Enhanced nographics versions 7.2. I take it that the mb in
the version name means multibeam?

I do not know if they process multibeam or not but these were made available the
21 and 22 of August 2007, as indicated at Alex's download site.

Anybody else know. At a quick glance when I installed it and reinstalled Boinc 5.10.7 it
appeared that Seti resent the 'lost results' which I believe were multibeam.

I got a new computer recently (old ones died in house fire) and got Seti running on it.

System: Compaq Presario SR5123WM-B
Memory: 2gig DDR2 5400 (2x 1gig sims) dual channel
CPU: AMD 64 X2 4000+

My normal turn around time per core was 4 hours.

A couple days ago, I tried the 2.4 NI SSE2 optimized client. That didn't fly. Computation errors all over the place, with very few WU's actually making it past 3 seconds.

So, I wiped the .xml, and reset the project.

Now here's the scarry part: my turn around DROPPED to 1 hour 20 mins average?!?!?!

Can anybody explain why this is?

Chicken 2.4 does not work on Vista, the optimizers are looking for the problem.

The stock app 5.27 you now use is faster then the old stock app because some of the optimisations have been build into the stock app.
