[snip]as yet I haven't seen the maths behind this, but from past experience they usually get it right.

Andy
edit] We must get Tony AKA Astro to fire up the P60 again to test it.

OK Andy, I took the hint. However, it's pre-coffee A.M here, and I fell for it. I VNCed to the P60, deleted the app-info and simon-ben-joe, reset seti and now I'm stuck with a machine that (like everyone else) is getting no work and is sitting idle (not that the difference between idle and 100% is all that much). If last time was any indication, it won't make the deadline this time either and I'd have lost 2 months (1/6th of a year)processing. LOL

tony

Just leave it trying - I've just done the same with my Celeron MMX, and it got a WU within 10 minutes (after five retries).

If you're lucky, you'll get an 07 MB WU with a deadline in October - you should have a chance of making that?

Well,

must be cause there were about 25 different apps to update...the 5.27 entries got lost in the fray.

Everyone who downloaded until now, edit as directed by a few people here if you feel you need to (or want to continue 5.27 WUs), everyone else, just grab the app, the XML files have been edited.

Maybe now I can get some sleep? :oP It's 2:30 a.m. and I can hardly type anymore.

Regards,
Simon.

Simon,

You're always behind the scenes but ahead of the curve.

My 'thumbs up' to you for all the thankless work you do: THANKS!!!

Just want to add my thanks to all the people that made this possible. I've upgraded all three of my poor, slow old machines with the new app and Chicken's 2.4. They are all crunching happily away. I did cheat a little bit, I went back to Lunatics and downloaded 2.4 again and just dropped the newest app with 5.27 in it instead of trying to change the appinfo file myself. Worked fine for me.

Were those the WUs that crashed around 20:44 UTC last night? Read Simon's posts (may only have been on lunatics.at) [edit - it was at message 617717 in this very thread]: the first downloads didn't have an updated version number in the app_info.xml. Worked fine if you were upgrading from 2.2B to 2.4, couldn't handle the transition from stock 5.27 to Chicken 2.4. The downloads are fixed now, so if you download again and install again it should work fine.

This host is running the Core 2 variant of Chicken 2.4 under Vista.

What is the upgrade process for those going from 2.2B to to 2.4?

You got 2 options.

First, let you cache run dry and drop the new app and app_info.xml like you did the first time. (SAFE method)

Second, stop boinc rename the new MB app matching the "old" 2.2 app name and replace the old one with the newly renamed one. restart boinc (UNSAFE method)

HTH

Me I choose a 3rd method, this is for Windows(XP x64 and XP Pro).

1. I stopped Boinc.

2. Then I went to the Boinc/Slots folder and deleted the single exe file in each of the folders in the Slots folder.

3. Then I went to the Projects folder and deleted the 2.2B files and the app_info.xml file.

4. Then I copied the New 2.4 files into the Projects folder from the zip or 7z file.

5. Then I edited the New 2.4 app_info.xml file so that the file has entries that say 515 & 527 only, All other app versions are deleted and except for the name of the file It's like below on all 5 of My PCs, Only the name of the exe file will change really.

<app_info>
<app>
<name>setiathome_enhanced</name>
</app>
<file_info>
<name>KWSN_2.4_SSSE3_IPP_Ben-Joe.exe</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<app_version>
<app_name>setiathome_enhanced</app_name>
<version_num>515</version_num>
<file_ref>
<file_name>KWSN_2.4_SSSE3_IPP_Ben-Joe.exe</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
</app_version>
<app_version>
<app_name>setiathome_enhanced</app_name>
<version_num>527</version_num>
<file_ref>
<file_name>KWSN_2.4_SSSE3_IPP_Ben-Joe.exe</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
</app_version>
</app_info>

6. Finally I restarted Boinc.

Fairly simple and I did this five times of course and I didn't have to let My cache run dry either, As the 2nd option is too dangerous and Sorry Crunch3r the 1st option is like watching either paint dry or Bermuda grass grow.

Oh and Crunch3r thanks for the compile of the 64bit XP x64 2.4 Seti app, They work fine, I'm using the SSE2 Gen on one PC and SSSSE3 on the Intel PCs.

Logan,
That's the way I did it too except I pulled the old 2.2B app_info file out of the folder first. I did have to go download 2.4 again as I got it too quick and got the one without the 5.27 instructions in it. The second time I just dragged the correct files into the folder and let them overwrite the first set. It's wrking fine for me too.

Holding breath for Soup of the Day with Spice... (2.4 with Graphics.) ...ok - I can't hold my breath that long; still, eagerly awaiting 2.4 with Graphics.

Thanks again to the Coop Team in continuing to create the Soup for all of us.

Problem, My AMD machine will not download 2.4 KWSN. I get a 7z file from the mirror. No problems at all with my intel machines. Perhaps someone could advise. Thanks

All of the files that Simon has up for download are 7z (zipped) files. You can download the 7zip unzipper here. Freeware, very small, works seamlessly.

I think I may not have been very clear regarding the 7zip file. I have four machines, one(1) is an AMD Windows XP. The downloads for the Intel machines went smoothly. However when I try to use the mirror site to download KWSN 2.4 for the AMD machine (SSE AMD generic) all I get is the 7zip file. I had that file allready on the AMD machine. Tried several times thinking I may have gotten a bit excited at first and made a mistake. Not so, tried again and got the same results. A 7zip file, but no optimized KWSN 2.4 file. Even my 64 bit vista machine was very easy. Thanks

OK! I downloaded the same file to a 3.5 floppy on my Intel machine and checked the contents on the same Intel machine. Your right, It's all there. I just don't know what I am not doing to get it right on the AMD machine. Sadly there is not an A drive on the AMD that I can use to transfer the files there.

Assuming your computers are networked. Can't you download AMD version to one of your Intels, unzip, and then transfer files.

I have them using the same router to broadband. I never did set up file sharing. I am not quite ready to undertake that chore yet. But after taking a break to check out the "Perseid Meteor shower" I had a few thoughts on how to try again. Thanks
