Simpatico. I have just bought the Nikon D40X - thus the inspiration for the thread. (I now live in dread of my next VISA statement) Nice photo’s everyone. Damn, who’d a thought that there’d be so much talent hereabouts. :)) |

I have just bought the Nikon D40X - thus the inspiration for the thread. Hey that's really cool Kenzie. The Nikon D40X and Canon 400D are very similar in spec and price, and are the only two cameras to choose from - and this is from photography people in the know. (I know very little about proper photography - I'm going on a learning journey with this camera.) What pipped the choice for me towards the Canon was the 3 photos per second burst at up to 27 photos (that's 9 seconds?). I just can't believe all the buttons and options. I'm having a BBQ tonight after which I will be perusing the instruction manual and seeing if I dare come off the fully automatic mode ;) flaming balloons |

Thank you Chris. Just about where that photo was taken is an iron chimnea on which I cooked tonight's BBQ, and then threw on some logs as the night cooled down. This is taken with my new camera, setting diverted from "fully automatic" to "flash off". I'm making progress with it already :) flaming balloons |

OOOH! That's a nice shot! I blew it up a bit, to capture that detail of the flying gull and its reflection. I hope you don't mind. :) |

I have just bought the Nikon D40X - thus the inspiration for the thread. I was leaning towards the Pentax K100D, but buddy in the camera store talked me into the Nikon. (Considerably more expensive, of course!) On the other hand, I managed to talk him out of a camera bag and some incidentals and was able to get a modest ‘giggle and hair-toss’ discount. It’s all new for me as well. Previously. I had a little Fuji point-and-shoot. Thank Dog for digital-no film to buy and no quilt about deleting the mistakes ;) Really cool pictures from everyone so far. I am impressed (and a little intimidated) |

That's one heck of a nice pond you have there, Ice! Congrats! That photo's a keeper. I'm adding the large of it to my collection. :) |

OOOH! That's lovely, Cyber! It reminds me of my dear departed macaw Chass, who was also a yellow-and-gold. What a great and loving companion he was! :) |
