It was felt (by western women) that Afghan women were better off under the Russians because they brought with them "Womens' Rights". Naturally RAWA (Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan) which was set up in 1977 would have had their own opinions. RAWA It's a difficult bit of history to understand... The book, 'Charlie Wilson's War' sheds a bit of light on the back story. However, Hev, replacing one tyrannical regime with another tyrannical regime for the sake of the wimmin isn't a good idea. I'm getting a little dizzy, the title of the thread seems to have changed once more :) @ Robert, I couldn't agree more with you about replacing one tyrannical regime with another. I don't think for a minute the reason the USSR invaded Afghanistan was to liberate the women. As can be seen elsewhere, regime change from outside doesn't seem to work too well. ID: 639847 · |

I actually genuinely LIKE women for themselves. I find it sad that so many men just use them..... Thats why I married my woman. :-) She's awesome, keeps me in check, and uses me!! LOL :-)
