Seems like a good idea to me. If sold, BOINC could be uninstalled or, if the customer approves, left onboard.

Think of all the free advertising they could get by creating a team named after their store.

Free advertising, they would be mad not to do it.

Good point. Hey if you can get a deal go for it. I was trying to find a way to increase research without increasing power usage. If only we could get more computers that are doing little or nothing to work on the projects. I have a very small(was much biger at one time) seti farm. I find myself asking myself should I run this or save the power by not running it. (and no, I don't think I am crazy for talking to myself, but then again, myself thinks I might be). I have turned off some older computers in the past, because I don't think their research power offsets their real power usage. I am not trying to reduce my power bill ... it never seems to go down ... I just trying not to pollute as much.

I was just at one of my favorite computer stores the other day ... MicroCenter. Anyway, I noticed that they have almost 30 computers and laptops running as demo computers. I really think stores like MicroCenter and Best Buy should install BOINC on those computers and create teams. I just keep thinking if 1000 best buys run BOINC ... look at all the research that could be done. With no increase of power usage.

The main problems I see is that the computers would need Internet Access, but this should not be a problem with the Laptops. Another problem I see is that the computers might sell, but demo computers usually are not sold.

So if anyone has any good contact info you might want to email these companies.

Oh well. If this idea was posted before, please ignore.

Actually, the desktop I bought in April 1997 was a demo and this laptop I bought in May 2005 was also a demo.
