Message 600984 - Posted: 9 Jul 2007, 19:03:27 UTC - in response to Message 600981.

How do you feel about this, people? I mean knowing that China has Ballistic Missles capable of striking the United States with nuclear warheads. Is anyone even a little bit concerned about this?

That depends. How many of their people is China willing to risk for one of ours?

Complete eradication of both countries would be about five Americans to one Chinese. But China isn't capable of doing that to the U.S. The U.S., however, is capable of doing that to China, LONG after everything they had to throw at us was thrown.

It's kinda like Rushmas. Long after they had spent all that they had to present us with "gifts," we could keep presenting them, and presenting them, and presenting them, and presenting them with similar gifts.

Mmmmmmm, more of that sweet, sweet, eyejuice...

Heheheh. Speak to Fuzzy about that. :)

I'm somewhat concerned. China is building some sophisticated weaponry, is what this shows. Would America go to war over Taiwan right now? I doubt it.

We do? Nah, the Rushmas thing was done to death. I don't plan any other Rushmas threads or competitions.

We couldn't go to war with with anyone, even Mexico right now. Almost all of our available troop strength is in Iraq and the state of our equipment is in a shambles because our maintance is so far behind due to the conditions over there. At least we have a well armed population for our own defense, but if we should need to go somewhere else right now, we'd be in big doodoo. Also, even at best the Chinese would out number us 20:1 and they are much closer. The nuclear option would be a disaster since they, the Chinese, have the capability of burn all of our major cities to the ground, four times over.

I agree with that assessment, Dennis. I also think the only reason that China hasn't invaded Taiwan has nothing to do with military might.

I think that the Chinese are hooked on their economic expansion and don't want to break off any trade relations.

But if and when they gain their economic goals, Look Out! And that's why their quiet buildup of sophisticated subs and ICBM missiles concerns me. While we focus on Iran, China is probably building a huge nuclear arsenal in the background.

I hear you, but don't panic. The Chinese don't own you, yet. I'll mention two things. First, China has enjoyed several trade advantages especially concerning their currency, but the rest of the world will tighten that up to level the playing field. Secondly, the United States has a proven history of clearing up huge deficits. America is known for this: for changing presidents and cleaning up the national debt. President Gerald Ford was one of the great presidents in that regard.

So yes, it's getting worse by the day, but America is still in the game. A great number of countries still invest in the American dollar. Twenty years ago, people had the same fear about Japan buing the USA out. It didn't happen then and it won't happen now, imho.

There are several differences between now and then. Japan mainly sold cars, television/electronics, and cameras. Now almost everything on the shelves, except cars is "Made in China." And everytime we talk to the Chinese about their undervalued currency they tell everyone to jump in the lake and mine our own business, which we have no other option but doing. They currently have us by the gonads. The last thing the Chinese want is to float their currency, and why should they.

President Bush's wars have pushed America deeply into debt, with little to show for it. I have no doubt about that. And yes, therefore the United States is in a weak bargaining position...at the moment. But I'd say it's doubtful that the neo-cons will win the next election. Do you agree?

And if the financial bleeding stops, the healing can and will begin, imho. Yes this situation is different than the last one, and that was different than the one before. But look into the matter and you'll see that America has an exceptional performance record for pulling itself out of large debt. That's all I'm saying. ;)

Which, is of course, why the gov't would re-implement the draft. And re-tool the economy for a massive ground war. Kinda like WWII.

At least we have a well armed population for our own defense, but if we should need to go somewhere else right now, we'd be in big doodoo. Also, even at best the Chinese would out number us 20:1 and they are much closer.[/quote]
The Chinese can't project their military might any farther than their soldiers can walk--and they cannot walk here. They've never been able to, the Chinese don't consider that a priority--meaning they aren't coming here for a land war, anytime in the foreseeable future.

The nuclear option would be a disaster since they, the Chinese, have the capability of burn all of our major cities to the ground, four times over.

Well, duh. It's war. No one said it would be a walk in the park holding hands with yer sweetie. Our major cities would be burned to the ground. Their entire country would look like a giant blast crater.

A) They can't foreclose, that's not how the system works. Those bonds have value, in part, because of the strength of the U.S. dollar and market, regardless of recent fluctuations.

B) It's ironic that you decry "our governments 'borrow and spent' policies" (sic) and yet you comment that "our lack of universal health care in [our] country is a national disgrace." Where exactly would the money to pay for universal health care come from? Can you guess?
