Sorry Beets, but Petra is in south west Jordan and not Syria. It took alot of work to accomplish, but no real engineering,
at least not on the level of the pyramids, the Great Wall of China, etc.

Yeah, you're right, Dennis. And how stupid am I, my .jpg even says "Petra, Jordan" LOL

No doubt about it, the Pyramids of Egypt are one of the Seven Wonders of the world...then AND now.

Thanks Knighmare!

I'm glad you like the place. That means you'll come back often, I hope. :)

Notice we've added an outdoor patio for people watching and partying!

I'll come back as often as I am able to. Keep in mind that Death has a tendancy to chase away business though....lol

Death will behave himself, ...or I'll kill him! LOL

Sounds like a "Family Guy" episode. :) Or "The Simpsons."

Hahahah! It does, doesn't it?

D'oh! Homer killed The Reaper. Woo hoo!

This just in...

Sony cut the price of the PlayStation 3 by $100, or 17 percent, in the United States on Monday, despite denials by Sony's CEO last week that any price change was being considered.

The PlayStation 3, which includes a 60GB hard drive and a Blu-ray high-definition DVD player, will now cost $500--or $20 more than the most expensive version of Microsoft's Xbox 360.

The PS3 still costs twice that of Nintendo's Wii console, whose $250 price and motion-sensing controller have made it a bestseller despite its lack of cutting-edge graphics and a hard drive.

It looks good on them that Sony was forced to lower its prices on poor sales. I haven't cared much for Sony ever since they installed Trojan-style Root-kits on their DVDs. PS3 runs on Bluetooth, which is bloated with DRM (=Digital Rights Management).

Nevermind the lower price: Boycott Sony!!!!

Heyas Dogbytes!

Welcome back, Darth!

I agree, I can't see the Egyptian pyramids not being part of the list. Have you gone to the http://www.new7wonders.com site? Some of those 21 semi-finalist sites look real interesting. And a couple of them I've never even heard of before.

I've heard of Petra though. Interesting ancient city, way up high in the mountains of Syria. :)

That is quite an amazing picture...it seems like a magical place.

Heyas Mystique!

...and Welcome to Beethoven's! :)

There's a mistake in that post of mine, btw. Petra is actually in Jorden, not in Syria.

Here's a pic for you of Al Kazneh, the ancient treasury building in Petra. People think the middle east is all desert, but as you can see, there are mountains in Jorden too. :)

I have a number of friends and colleagues here that are from Jordan. They made this clear to me a few years ago. (It was not as if I thought all of the Middle East was desert, but they did help me expand my understanding of the different terrains/climates one can find there. Maybe someday I will get to see for myself.)

Usually stories like this end with a quote from a spokesperson who says..."The decision cut the price of PS3 had nothing to do with the public outcry about the price...and nothing to do with poor sales of the product."

Heh. There are also some that would call Sony's CEO Howard Stringer some nasty names for trying to pretend a price drop wouldn't happen. Unless, of course, he just suddenly changed his mind a week later. But it does look as if he was trying to get as many sales at the old higher price as he could.

You should've seen Sony's reaction when the scandal broke over their hidden DOS rootkits a couple of years ago: sheer arrogance! Now they've brought their rootkits out into the open, with Bluetooth. That's their reaction to the complaints of millions of angry consumers. I'm actually glad to see the consumers punish them, by voting against Sony where it hurts the most, by witholding their money. So that's why I say:

Boycott Sony!!!!

You're right. I'd need to hire a team of about 6 bodyguards for a week's visit there. ;)

THE first publicly available pictures have emerged of China's new Jin-class nuclear-powered submarine, which is capable of firing intercontinental ballistic missiles against the US.

Hans Kristensen, a nuclear weapons analyst for the Federation of American Scientists, spotted the new submarine while reviewing photos of north-eastern China that had been snapped by a commercial satellite for Google Earth.

The photos taken late last year show the submarine alongside a pier at the Xiaopingdao Submarine Base south of the city of Dalian.

The sub is just above the top center of the pic, docked next to the pier. (See my insert blowup pic).

A collection of some interesting Google Earth captures can be seen here:

Edit: How do you feel about this, people? I mean knowing that China has Ballistic Missles capable of striking the United States with nuclear warheads. Is anyone even a little bit concerned about this?

That depends. How many of their people is China willing to risk for one of ours?

Complete eradication of both countries would be about five Americans to one Chinese. But China isn't capable of doing that to the U.S. The U.S., however, is capable of doing that to China, LONG after everything they had to throw at us was thrown.

It's kinda like Rushmas. Long after they had spent all that they had to present us with "gifts," we could keep presenting them, and presenting them, and presenting them, and presenting them with similar gifts.

Mmmmmmm, more of that sweet, sweet, eyejuice...
Cordially,
Rush
