I actually have the exact OPPOSITE result on my system. On some rare cases, the screen saver is actually detected as user activity and thus BOINC-SETI will not run. If you don't mind SETI running all the time, try selecting Run Always from the Activity menu in BOINC Manager and see if that helps. |

I actually have the exact OPPOSITE result on my system. The Seti client is constantly in a "suspended by user activity" mode regardless that there are no processes running. Has anyone seen this? Ryan |

Just to be clear...any frustration expressed is NOT directed at BOINC/seti/etc nor even at the MS programmers; rather, it is at the MS advertisers who continually claim full compatibility. Or just venting after a day of trying to figure out lots of things on another persons' Vista machine :) like Vista not allowing an Administrator with full rights to change the name of a system file (by limiting rights to even CHANGE persmissions on some files) even though Help says Administrator rights can do anything :*# I have read thru the BOINC forum posts & will monitor there for final solutions. I don't want to run a non-final version of BOINC on a machine I only get to a few times a year. Thanks. I have the EXACT same situation...and the EXACT same problem. I have a single host (AMD Athlon X2 4600+) running BOINC v5.10.7 (I know it was pulled from the recommended, but I'm still running without issues) installed as "multiple users" (I have my own administrative account on the machine so I can access it when I need to) and Vista Home Premium 64bit. I've installed the 32bit BOINC client in the \\Program Files(x86)\\BOINC default directory and UAC is disabled. I also have a separate setting for this host (not my machine) to do no work while machine is in use and it responds to this setting all the time. Are you using fast user switching? Is BOINC set up as a service on a different account than the one being used to log in (e.g. a user account)? I'm thinking your problem might fall somewhere in those two questions. |

Vista is presenting all kinds of incompatibility problem for the existing Boinc versions as is the case for a lot of other software and legacy hardware. The Boinc dev are trying to address some of these, but most of the issues caused by Vista probably wont be truly addressed until at least V6.x.x when there are plans to do some major overhaul of the way some of the Boinc internal processes work. This could still be many months away depending on what other problems and issues crop up with the currently planned changes on the V5.x.x line of development. This is a BOINC problem so it's probably better to look over there and report as necessary. See Boinc On Vista - Projects Don't Suspend |

I have the EXACT same situation...and the EXACT same problem. None of my other machines have this issue, but this is the first Vista (crowd groans in the background). I've double-double checked that the location of the client (school) is being picked up by the client & the profile properly says NO work when busy. I had, after many many attempts, finally convinced the owner to run BOINC on their brand new Vista machine promissing that BOINC would suspend when they were using their computer. Well, I've been made a liar. I have had to 100% disable that particular client because of this issue. Could it be because we (Shane & I) are running BOINC as a service? Shane posted this 16 days ago, and still no response? SETI@home since 1999 "Set it, and Forget it!" |

Hi, I have Boinc running as a service under Vista Home Premium. On first boot, it correctly stays suspended while user is active, but once the user becomes inactive the client will start and not stop again when the user becomes active. Boinc is running as service under admin user account, but this account is not used normally for general use. Have updated to most recent BOINC but no luck. Appreciate any help.
