Missing: Large lake in southern Chile (wonder what Tiare will say about this?)

Wed Jun 20, 6:44 PM ET

SANTIAGO (Reuters) - A lake in southern Chile has mysteriously disappeared, prompting speculation the ground has simply opened up and swallowed it whole.

The lake was situated in the Magallanes region in Patagonia and was fed by water, mostly from melting glaciers.

It had a surface area of between 4 and 5 hectares (10-12 acres) -- about the size of 10 soccer pitches.

"In March we patrolled the area and everything was normal ... we went again in May and to our surprise we found the lake had completely disappeared," said Juan Jose Romero, regional director of Chile's National Forestry Corporation CONAF.

"The only things left were chunks of ice on the dry lake-bed and an enormous fissure," he told Reuters.

CONAF is investigating the disappearance.

One theory is that the area was hit by an earth tremor that opened a crack in the ground which acted like a drain.

Southern Chile has been shaken by thousands of minor earth tremors this year.

That's strange. What about evidence of any life that lived in the lake?

this happened before but in the US a large lake was being drilled for oil and a giant salt mine was being mined right underneath it due to a miscalculation and the oil drillers drilled right into the salt mine creating a huge drain aking the lake dissapear.

Thanks. Have a link to that story?

Jeffrey, ever watch the History Channel and hear of some possible scientific explanations for various things that occurred during The Exodus?

Nice finds, Labbie! Thanks! I am fairly certain I saw the one from the History Channel, but probably had my attention divided between that and 1 or 2 other things as it was airing.

Just remember that the one in Louisiana was definitely caused by man. At this time (as far as I know), no one is sure what happened in Chile and Russia.

And this type of event, while not common, is far from rare; but it usually happens during periods of earthquake activity in the area.

Yes... The conclusions always being something like this: They could build great pyramids and lay out our solar system, yet they had no idea what clay was...

Just some food for thought... ;)

Nooo ... that was far from the types of conclusions that were drawn in the show I saw. If anything, they were saying that they had good evidence for The Exodus occurring and many of the strange events preceding and during it, as well as why they could have occurred. As I recall, they made little to no mention of whether something supernatural was further behind all of that. Because that's not something they could prove or disprove, is it?

It's quite possible to prove the events happened, and even quite possible to come up with a scientific explanation as to how they happened... However, that doesn't necessarily mean that they actually happened that way, or even happened at all...

The supernatural stuff, yes, that is a matter of faith not science... ;)

Wow, this news was heard around the world. It's a very important proof of what's happening on the planet, I'm CONVINCED this was caused by man. But no one seems to take action of this (I'm talking about authorities).

There were hundreds (I think it was thousands) of small tremors from the beginning of this year, people started to leave their houses and living at the highest part of this Southern city. 2 months ago there was a tsunami, yes a tsunami!, with 7 people dissapeared. Scientists said nothing was going to happen, but It was too late.

I'm not sure what's is going to happen in 10 or 20 years, but no one seems to care...Our ex-president Mr. Ricardo Lagos was chosen by ONU between 2 other international (and important) people to investigate about climate change. But where is the point of that if they cannot take action of what's happening. They said China and U.S are the most pollutant countries in the world, but have they changed something with that conclusion?

Another climate change proof: All our central zone of the country was snowy yesterday. That never happens! Last time was 14 years ago, so we were all surprised by this.

Same thing is happening in our Antartica. Many scientists have died because of huge fissures on the ground. They were "safe" places to transit before. But it's literally melting in front of our eyes.

What a pity.

Greetings
Tiare.-
