What do you feel when you feel happy?
When are you happy?

Can this feeling ever be really defined?

What do you think? :)

On a simple level I feel happy when I join in on this forum and either I am able to, or others can, make our conversations flow.

It is so nice to feel I am part of things sometimes.

The feeling of being 'enjoined' always makes a difference for me.

If you don't try and quantify it it is like falling down knowing a loved one will catch you.

It's absolutely magic when it happens.

Happiness is when I'm able to capture a good picture and get congrats for that.

Or when I realize and appreciate all what I have and not feel desesperate of what I don't.

A long sail on a lazy sunny day.

A good book.

The day when all the men and women in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere come home alive and well.

All very much at the personal level!

Feeling content with oneself, ones family and the world.

And ...

Not having too many responsibilities and access to sufficient money to not need to worry.

Having the company of excellent attentive and loving animals. In my case 6 little dogs.

When I was a teenager -

Like Kenzie ...

... a long lazy sail offshore, or the equivalent fishing with feather lines (mackerel ling).

The stress free cash position in this environment helps very much!

Feeling good and seeing, as far as possible, the future looking rosy.

Sitting in front of my 24" HP monitor, watching a Seti WU crunch to completion and report, with one of my kitties in the crook of my arm purring while I refresh my 'your computers' page to see if my RAC has gone up a notch.
Could do it for weeks on end, if I didn't have to go to work to keep the whole thing afloat. Guess I'm a Seti addict, eh?

Naw, I'm about maxed out. Could get up to 26,000 or so with a tailwind and fewer of those darned 58.7 WUs that the '99 tapes seem to be dishing up. I'll bet I'd be about tops in the world in total credit/computer/hour.

But the whole landscape's gonna change just a bit when MB comes online. The optimized apps will have a little less advantage, because Simon and Joe and the rest of the Chicken Coop have come up with a few optimization strategies that will now be incorporated into the stock app. All for the greater good of Seti!

This lad is an addict out-and-out!

He has a farm of several C2Ds and a couple of C2Qs, all heavily overclocked and even with special liquid cooling to keep temperatures down for the higher clocks.

This guy is a serious overclocker with the aim of dominating the world of SETI, etc.

Just watch the RACs when the Penryns and Nelehams come out later this and next year.

From a serious home farm he will be competing head-to-head with the SysAdmins with 50+ machines to play with.

But, with the company of his kitties, he comes over as very contented with his lot in life so far!

Well, still I think that happiness is more than just feeling content with oneself and the world...
But I also got the impression that the words "happiness" and "happy" are used kind of inflationary, just like the word "love"...

There are levels of happiness (inflation?).

This starts with being content, or at ease, with oneself/family/work colleagues/the world and, perhaps, ones lot and achievements to date. I think this is the most important stage.

Higher levels would relate to plans made and achieving them, or goals set by the person that eventually get achieved, etc.

Just the sort of activity you, I interpret, are currently going through, Thorin.

However, the individual could be at various stages in this cycle, as you are!
