Can we prioritise. I mean the forum and PM features require work and effort for those who might otherwise already have other duties.

Top of my wish list are:

1. Delete all
2. Outbox

I am sure I could add other ideas but today for me these would be a good place to start.

As to separate filters for boards and PMs? I don't get spam or rubbish in my PM box and rarely see anthing on the forums I truely dislike that I could not cope with or simply ignore.

It would be interesting to hear if other do?

I get a fair amount of what I call Spam: mostly kindly folks trying to get me to join their teams.

It has gotten to the point where I have a standard reply in my notepad and I just cut and paste my thanks-but-no-thanks.

Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas.

Perhaps I exaggerate a little. I only get 2 or 3 per day.

I think it’s because I’m not a member of any team. Been thinking about starting my own as a preventive measure. Just gotta come up with a kool name...

Maybe the forum mods should make a general announcement that private (PM) solicitiations for those with no group membership are not acceptable.

Sometimes I see free floating members on SETI and think it would be nice they joined my team.. Unless I was already in general communication with them I would never try to solicite.

My basic assumption is that those people who are teamless are still a member of the main SETI team. You, me and they already belong.

We have the "Team Recruitment Center" for such advertisements.

I am amazed that people or teams don't understand this.

I've only had one bring it up and it was the same, I was already in communication with that person.

It's only unacceptable because that is the evolving reaction/opinion of people here in response to such solicitations. Perhaps on some other forum, people would not mind. But, since people here generally agree it should not be done, then this should indeed be addressed.

Please use this thread to discuss the use of Private Messages - both appropriate and inappropriate.

Please continue to discuss changes for the user interface in MrGray's thread New PM System?.

Those desperately seeking kenzieB should start here.

I think that at least team recruitment should not be made via PM.

It's okay to see the links and banners etc. on the boards (sometimes these are really cool!); AFAIK there also is an entire forum about team recruitment - but I don't think that PMs should be used for it.

Sorry to the guy who tried to recruit me into his/her team via PM: Since no other message was coming with it, and it was entirely only about team recruiting, I simply deleted this message - don't try it again, it will be deleted again. :-|

OK. Anyone can replicate or copy anything I have ever said but my personal post was made here..

I don't mind replication of my stupidity in various different places but please do not remove any of my original posts where possible. I like to fail in my own time where ever I may travel..

It's a me thing :o)

We're responsible for deleting things on our own. But, are you referring to abusive PMs?
BTW, I think the thread might better be re-titled "Use and Mis-Use of Private Messages."
Again, these are things we as a community develop as conventions. We should abide by them, but let's not think that they are immutable laws.

The way the Private messaging was explained to me, is that "you" as in us, are all responsible for our own messages. Theres nothing the moderators can do about the PM's. Unfortunately I don't know if there will be a way to report abusive private messages, like how you can report abusive emails to ISP's, technically the folks at SETI would be who to complain to, however, they do not have the time to deal with that. The little red x next to the user names only block a user, not to report anything. Maybe some feedback from admin about this would clear some things up.

I would be interested to know if anyone has received any abusive messages. I find myself spending as much time with PMs as on the boards, yet haven't reveived any abuse.

I have heard of one.

The moderators cannot see any PM not addressed to them.

I was just curious. My experiences in Seti-Land have (with one or two exceptions) been friendly, but I had noticed people posting earlier about abuse.
