Hi!

I'm thinking about this cache system...
Example:
I get my cache full at once as usual, but when WU are ready and reported, i do not get new work.

So at the some point my cache is empty and then i will get again many many wu's to work with.

But if that "some point" is when servers are down my crunching stops.

Will this be like this, or is it possible to get new work every time when one WU is ready, so cache would be allways full?
Crunching should be protected at every situation for several days.

Sorry about my bad english, i hope you understand what i mean :)

The project is still beta, and there are certain procedures recommended for caching. Since the project is beta, new application versions can be released frequently. If you have a "full" cache, it will take you longer to get the new application because you will need to finish the work units in your cache first. A cache setting of 0.1 - 0.1 or 0.3 days is recommended.

There is also a feature that is currently turned off. This is called the "low watermark" what this means, is that you cache does not need to be completely empty to request more work. With the low watermark, the cache will operate using a threshold. This means that if your cache gets below a certain point, the client will request more.

As for the servers going down and not being able to get more work, this isn't expected to be a common occurance once the project is launched.

During the beta however, this could mean that you run out of work. This is an unavoidable situtation at times if you are keeping your cache small as recommended by the development team. So just bear with it, and don't set your cache to high to compensate.

Hopefully that answered your question. :)

Another thought is to sign up for more than one project. If one project is down, or out of work, surely someplace else will be up and running.

Where do I change the cache? I thought it was under the preferences but I can't find it.

Ok, found that. It was set to .1 days. I have about 3 days worth of work. Is this right? or did I break it? I have done the update from BOINC several times (over the last week).

EDIT!!!:!:!:!:!
N/M, I had the computer set to the wrong profile :D
