... and then there are the professional preachers Jesus warned us about:
...They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted in the marketplaces, and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. They devour widows' houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely'.

Reads very much like a description of many nowadays preachers & church pastors...

Please don't get me started critisizing the Mormon church:

Church leaders sitting front and center seperated from and facing their 'followers'...
Church leaders demanding tithings from their 'followers'...
Church leaders requiring a dress code of suit and tie from their 'followers'...
I won't even mention the 'New Americas' and 'Zionism'...

If the church works for you, great... But somehow it all seems to be a little arrogant and yuppie-like to me...

Of course, now that I've 'insulted the prophet' with simple facts, 'something terrible will happen to me'...
Why? Because the prophets doctrine says so... I wonder if Jesus would have made such a statement... ;)

I believe the truth lays in waiting in books. Not in people.

seems you have not researched enough. There is no dress-code, there is no demand of the tithing (except what the Bible says): they don't even have and want control about whether or not you pay full tithing or just a part, and within the last 13 years I never heard such thing like Zionism there, or "New America".

Of course, when I visit the house of God (or any place or event dedicated to the God I believe in) I dress properly to pay respect - it's my own decision to show respect to the Lord wearing the best and cleanest outfit when I go worship Him. If my best and cleanest outfit at hand is just Blue-jeans and sweatshirt I go there wearing Blue-Jeans and sweatshirt, if my best and cleanest outfit at hand is suit and tie I'll wear suit and tie, that simple.

Of course, now that I've 'insulted the prophet'...

I haven't seen that you insulted Mr. Gordon B. Hinckley, or any other president of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints before him in person, nor that you insulted the church - you just pointed some things out you may have seen and found worth to criticize.

I usually wouldn't do this but Thorin and Jefferey have bailed me out on a number of occasions so here goes my little ditty:

When discussing religions it's important to be kind and considerate in order to move forward in sharing data. I know I am no one to talk, but I've learned that talking down to others about race and religion is a fire ball waiting to be thrown.

I better wrap this up so I don't get accused of ranting and/or spamming...

We all have our beliefs. We all, well most of us, have their religions. In order to understand each other we need to know about others religions. Every religion I know of has had it's moments in the sun and it's turn to wear the black hat. Some more than others, have had a sorted past, worthy of a good roasting. But maybe we can all act nice so we can learn. Wording is key. You can say the same thing in many different ways. (Something I'm still trying to work on.)

No matter what God you believe in, you believe in Him or Her because you see a better way of living for all man kind. Together.

Wow I type fast. Better shut up now.

That was my only intent... For the most part, Mormons are very nice people, I just don't agree with all of their religious ways... ;)

Thorin/Zwerg..and I disagree about almost everything under the sun. But this 'Bible Code' has been shown to be such a far fetched bit of trickery. Some skeptics have gone through the phone books or 'Mein Kampf' and so forth and found everyone's name in it using the same methodology. They've gotten 'prophecies' from it proving this or that about....(fill in the blank) that have come true.

Wenn aber Christus, der gesagt hat: "Du sollst nicht töten!"
an seinem Kreuz sehen muß, wie sich die Felder blutig röten;
wenn die Pfaffen Kanonen und Flugzeuge segnen
und in den Feldgottesdiensten beten, daß es Blut möge regnen;
und wenn die Vertreter Gottes auf Erden
Soldaten-Hämmel treiben, auf daß sie geschlachtet werden;
und wenn die Glocken läuten: 'Mord! und die Choräle hallen:
"Mord! Ihr sollt eure Feinde niederknallen!"
Und wenn jemand so verrät den Gottessohn-:
Das ist keine Schande.
Das ist Religion.

(Kurt Tucholsky, dt. Schriftsteller, 1890-1935)

Attempt of a Translation (by me):

But when Christ, who "You shall not kill!" has said,
must see from his cross how fields become red;
when the pastors bless the cannon and air-plane
and pray that from the sky blood shall rain;
When God's representatives on Earth
drive soldier-sheep to be slaughtered;
When bells ring "Murder!", and chorales clang:
"Murder! You shall let your foes go bang!"
And when someone thus betrays God's own son -:
That's not a mess.
That's religion.

State Sen. Ernie Chambers Sues God

Chambers Aims To Make Point About Frivolous Lawsuits

POSTED: 1:52 pm CDT September 17, 2007
UPDATED: 10:23 am CDT September 18, 2007

OMAHA, Neb -- State Sen. Ernie Chambers is suing God. He said on Monday
that it is to prove a point about frivolous lawsuits.

Chambers said senators periodically have offered bills prohibiting the filing of
certain types of suits. He said his main objection is that the constitution
requires that the doors to the courthouse be open to all.

"Thus anybody can file a lawsuit against anybody -- even God," Chambers said.

Chambers said he decided to file the lawsuit after a suit was filed in early
September in federal court against Lancaster County Judge Jeffre Cheuvront. He's
the judge who was hearing a sexual assault case in which the plaintiff wants to
use the words rape and victim during her testimony.

Chambers lawsuit, which was filed on Friday in Douglas County Court, seeks a
permanent injunction ordering God to cease certain harmful activities and the
making of terroristic threats.

The lawsuit admits God goes by all sorts of alias, names, titles and
designations and it also recognizes the fact that the defendant is omnipresent.

In the lawsuit, Chambers said he's tried to contact God numerous times.

"Plaintiff, despite reasonable efforts to effectuate personal service upon
defendant 'Come out, come out, wherever you are,' has been unable to do so,'"
Chambers said.

The suit also requests that the court, given the peculiar circumstances of this
case, waive personal service. It said that being omniscient, the plaintiff
assumes God will have actual knowledge of the action.

The lawsuit accuses God "of making and continuing to make terroristic threats of
grave harm to innumerable persons, including constituents of Plaintiff who
Plaintiff has the duty to represent." It says God has caused "fearsome floods,
egregious earthquakes, horrendous hurricanes, terrifying tornadoes, pestilential
plagues, ferocious famines, devastating droughts, genocidal wars, birth defects
and the like."

The suit also says God has caused "calamitous catastrophes resulting in the
wide-spread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of
the Earth’s inhabitants including innocent babes, infants, children, the aged
and infirm without mercy or distinction."

Chambers also says God "has manifested neither compassion nor remorse,
proclaiming that defendant will laugh" when calamity comes.

Chambers asks for the court to grant him a summary judgment. He said as an
alternative, he wants the judge to set a date for a hearing as expeditiously as
possible and enter a permanent injunction enjoining God from engaging in the
types of deleterious actions and the making of terroristic threats described in
the lawsuit.

I think it's just great.
The court will be in a dilemma: either they accept God to be a real person (or institution), then they have to accept the case and judge the "defendant" - or they refuse to judge over this case (despite of the heavy accusations against the "defendant") claiming God does not exist.

I don't want to be in that jury's position :o)

I think that's hilarious. I wonder if The Flying Spaghetti Monster is listed as one of God's many aliases.
