Eric,

Would throwing add'l H/W (a dual core puppy - P4 PD 940 3.2 GHz 800FBS 1GB DDR2 667MHz - I've here in reserve) at it to help handle the comms load be of any use?

We're about to put "ptolemy" in the mix in the next few hours. I'll certainly let you know if we need more beyond that.

Eric

Well that's still improvement. You've gone from pounding on Bruno's (and his clone) door to pounding on Galileo's.

In any event, the validators and assimilators are still of so there's no deadline pressure, even if they're overdue at this point.

I hate getting my technical news on a message board. While it's interesting, to be blunt, I don't have the time to wade through hundreds of posts to find out what's going on.
Please continue to update the "technical news" page with at least a summary of what's going on.

Just my 2 cents worth

And you're basing this on what, Brian?

@MW:

Generally speaking if there isn't a new dated post in the root, then it's going to be mostly chat about the topic du jour.

Still there are 130 posts in this thread.
All I want to know is what is going on....I just don't have time to keep up.

Feel free to ignore my input :)

Then just take a look at the front page.

All ya need to know there in less than 2 seconds/cents!

Meanwhile, leave Boinc to do its stuff as best it can and Berkeley (ok, we really mean Matt, all one of him and no sleep) will soon(-ish) tidy up the data and connections to oil the WUs on their way through the system.

Still that's just a rough idea. The technical reports gave more detail without wading through dozens of messages.

Oh well, no one seems to get what I'm saying, so I'll shut up and keep running seti@home like I have for the last few years. I just won't know what's going on as much. I can live with that.

It's real easy to do without wading, Wayne - just put "Matt Lebofsky" without the quotes in the search window in the upper left corner of any forum showing activity in the last couple of hours, and you'll get the latest word on what's going on.

I have now uploaded my finished WU's. I can't report them to Seti main, but I could report them successfully to Seti Beta.

So it seems they are making some progress. :-D

Now, this isn't the thread to discuss Thesisology ;)

...of course it may be the right room for an argument...

Hi,
two of my computers working 4u broke down exactly on the day your server did ... Both of them are up again (new boards/processors) but they are not receiving new work ...
Try it ever and ever again!

Now I get this??? Any ideas ??
[...]
5/16/2007 10:04:57 PM|SETI@home|Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 509]
5/16/2007 10:04:57 PM|SETI@home|Message from server: Completed result 16fe05ab.10775.2368.859632.3.29_0 refused: result already reported as success
[...]

No need to worry. You had successfully reported these results earlier. But because we have/had dropping connections your client didn't get the scheduler reply which would have told it that the report was successfull.

Regards,
Carsten

WARNING! 5.9.10 is in beta testing... and is unstable, and (probably) contains bugs! Use only if you have no choice! (like you run Win XP Pro x64, or Win Vista x64... where 5.9.10 is the only official 64 bit version available) (there is a 64 bit version of 5.4.11 out there... but it's not from Berkeley)

Not only that!
I'm not sure, but It seems as there isn't any S@H client for that version!

Probably, on 64 bit platforms, you'll be able to use 32 bit applications (on "compatibility" emmulation or similar).

yes, you can... no emulation required... (the OS shifts the 64 bit chip back and forth between 64 and 32 bit modes) all 64 bit Inte£ and AMD chips still have the full 32 bit instructions, after all... (as well as 16 bit and 8 bit instructions!)
There's just a touch of overhead for the CPU to make the mode change...
.
