G'day Team,
There's still some grief at my end. The new server has files queued on my BOINC Manager and has been attempting to download them for ages and ages. Messages keep appearing that say the following over and over and over. It's been going on for yonks now - any ideas as to what if anything I need to be doing - or is it just a waiting game? Cheers ...... Chris

Same here, have a bunch of machines waiting for work... managed to get a wu on one machine about 3 hours ago, it was a short one, had it processed in a half hour but will not upload back... all the other machines are cached but haven't actually downloaded them... I'm chalking it up to congestion... at least I hope.

The servers are most likely being overwhelmed with requests atm.
Give it a day or two (if everything keeps working as it should) and things should look a lot smoother.

Now the upload/download server is taken down .. Shows disabled in the server status.. This evening i have got 2 WU downloaded and still trying to get 4 more.. Have been going like that for 24hours but only recently it got 2 of them dl:ed.. I will not request more work until my computer is out of work again and that will probably be in 24 hours or something since i have Rosetta project too.. Hope the congestion will be fixed :D

I'm sort of hoping that they DON'T take the servers offline tomorrow for the 'normal' backup cycle. With the very large user upload/download hit due to the week long outage, I'd think we might need two to three solid days of 'normal' run time to get out from under.
Certainly today the server upload/download side of things is clearly under a lot of pressure.

At the moment I believe Matt is putting thumper into the server closet, since it sounds like an airplane engine (it was in the main SETI@home lab over the weekend, I think).
What..you guys don't like the sound of airplane engines in and about your workspace? ;)
LoL!
Me neither & thanks for the mid-day update!!!
It all depends on what kind of airplane engine. :-) Turbine? No thanks. Big radial, you bet! I LOVE the sound of a big radial coming to life. Nothing like it in the world.

Here, we've always considered a 100+ db level in the computer room an efficiency enhancement. Sysops tend not to fall asleep, thus increasing productivity. They do wander about saying "HUH?" quite a bit however.
Good job getting it all going, guys!

Agreed. I used to live near a small regional airport that was also the base for some restored WWII aircraft, and i much prefer the sound of a radial engine to that of an inline, except for that gorgeous sound emminating from the exhaust of a Rolls Rouce Merlin engine :)
My favourite sounding plane? The Harvards.

Appears back online now.
Yep, although the graph doesn't look healthy.
Normally it's a big surge that remains for a few hours & then gradually drops off, then drops right off. But this graph shows lots of "spikes" where the throughput is stopping during the overall surge in traffic.

I expect the devs will use the outage to clean the pipe and optimize things.

Would you like to work next to a screamin' 130+ decibel monster jet engine? I dunno about decibels, but that's probably what the new Thumper sounds like... I've had disk drives that sounded like a Turbofan jet engine on startup, when the drive was powered on. (only one at a time, though!) Thumper has 48 disk drives - imagine all those starting at once!
