This is a sight for sore eyes:

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_status.html

And I'll bet there's a couple of staff members at Berkeley who have sore eyes right now because of hard work and very little or no sleep!

Again, thank you Jeff and Eric for your dedication and hard work.

And there's no new work to go out, so those WU's people have received must have been some recycled WU's.

A suggestion: Please keep an eye on the server page and keep your client to "no new work" until you see there are new WU's to get.

Thanks for the hard work getting thumper thumping again!

Hopefully, soon we will be awash in WUs. I have six machines that I need to wake up!

I was able to snag a few units. They look like new ones to me. The splitters are creating new work from the status page but they are being snapped up as fast as they are being created. I'd expect this to last a few days before things get back to normal. For now I'm not requseting new work 'til the ones I got are done, should give others a chance to pick up a few as well.

So do not be surprised if you do not get work for a few days.

Since they get the new hardware the recovery from outages has been much faster & I'd hope things will be back to normal within 12 hours or less.

Although if the present Result Creation rate on the server status page is correct, it will be closer to 2 days from now.

EDIT- the result creation rate is dropping & continues to drop. Some process hung somewhere? Could take a week (or longer) to recover at it's present rate of decline.

They might be testing and some fresh WU's are added to the queue? Could be?

It has been that way ever since the death of Thumper & will remain that way till everyone's caches have refilled.
The load of people trying to report results & get new work is what makes contacting the schedulers a hit or miss affair.

Great to see everything is back and working once more. Got my first work unit downloaded on my laptop about 2 hrs ago and started crunching data immediately :) The old computer processors had a nice vacation, now it's back to business :p

I got one unit on one machine out of three. I guess the server is being swamped as the others haven't managed to download anything yet.

Oh well! One's better than none.

Well done guys.

It might be a bit early to break out the Champagne. I think there may still be some problems with the servers. Like you only one of my hosts has been able to d/l a WU (about 5 hours ago). It finished it (about 2 hours ago) but hasn't been able to u/l it yet (and, after this long outage, there isn't a backlog of finished work). Also, the "Database/file status" numbers on the server status page haven't changed in over an hour. In other words, we may be close, but we ain't there yet.

I wonder if the server is spitting out all or mostly the super short WUs. If so, it may never be able distribute enough work to get caught up to the demand. It should be concentrating distributing the biggest WUs possible for now.

It's not a matter of choice. The so-called short WU just happen to be a section of the recording with more interference. Whatever tape is being split goes into the queue. The tapes that are currently being split, in many cases, are those that were known to be too noisy for the old software but may contain useful data that can be extracted with the enhanced application. You get what you get. If it is an extra noisy recording, you get a lot of noisy WU, which the application stops analyzing after a very short time so that it doesn't create a very large useless report. They still need to be processed. This recovery will take at least a few days no matter what is being sent out.

I'm keeping my systems busy with other projects until the people that are not as aware of the problem get their tanks filled, then I'll turn Seti back on.

At the present rate, about 40 hours from the last server stats update.

Great news, thanks for all the hard work you people have done to get Thumper up and running again and thanks to Sun for their incredible donation.

I wish Thumper II a long and healthy life.

What an awesome gift to come home this evening and find my machines crunching away most contentedly. A very very big thank you to the SETI staff for their hard work and dedication to the project and another very big thank you to SUN for their generous donation to the backbone of our joy and personal obsessions.

Same here, Ill let my 10 computers at work do work on other projects until some work are queued up here and connection problems are gone. Maybe on monday i can turn off the other projects and let them empty the work cache, that will make all computers ready to request work from SETI on wednesday or thursday..
