The replacement science database server from Sun was last seen in Sacramento. That bodes well for being in the Bay Area and possibly in our hands sometime tomorrow. You know the drill on that by now. I've been basically spending most of my time pushing several machines into near retirement. Both koloth and kryten are sitting idle right now - all their services, cronjobs, etc. have been moved elsewhere. Once we determine we no longer need their excess CPU for the big recovery next week they'll be put to sleep. Jeff is working on kang. You may have noticed some of my tweaking has resulted in bogus information on the server status page (or no page at all!). That should be pretty much cleared up now. Well, that's pretty much the end of my work week. Thanks for hangin' in there. Gig: a job (music or otherwise). I've been using this term forever, without any irony or reference to bygone subcultures. ... Matt (& co), don't bore about the server. Have a good weekend. If every body had to wait a completly week, 72 hours more doesn't matter. U made a great job these days, and everybody need a break. If there's enougth time, rebuild thumper, otherwise, don't worry. ![]() ![]() |

Ive been keeping up with the posts and I can say that even though Seti has been down about a week it's been reassuring to hear from you about the status of Sun, what you guys are working on, it makes the wait a bit more bearable. :-) Im sure with all the contributors that are waiting to get crunching again it must be stressful, just take your time, well be here.... One things for sure, when the new machine is up and running were gonna run that poor thing ragged.....:')) ![]() |

Very awesome news Matt. Enjoy your weekend, have fun at your gig's. Too bad I work weekends, otherwise I'd drive over the hill and come hear you and your band. Maybe one day. I'll have to email ya when I get weekends off and find out where your playin at and come down. Thank you very much for all the updates. Its nice to see a lot of posters who never posted before come in and say how much they appriciate all the news. You guys are doing one hell of a job. Keep up the good work. Jeremy ![]() |

It probably is a fairly good time to upgrade now to BOINC version 5.8.16..... |

It probably is a fairly good time to upgrade now to BOINC version 5.8.16..... I still like version 5.8.6 because the Task Tab, Progress includes a fill-bar. Real easy and quick to see. Don't know why that feature was dropped. I try to be attached to 3 projects on each machine. That way if 1 goes down for a while, I don't hafta do noding! I still like version 5.8.6 because the Task Tab, Progress includes a fill-bar. It's all back in 5.9.x. It's available on the download page for BOINC. Dublin, California Team: SETI.USA ![]() |

Thanx for the steady stream of updates and your constant efforts Matt. I have reattached all of my rigs to Rosetta with a share of 1 so my rigs have something to do over the weekend, as it appears the WUs at Beta are dried up also. I still like version 5.8.6 because the Task Tab, Progress includes a fill-bar. Thanks for tip. I just installed 5.9.10 and it seems very good. |

It probably is a fairly good time to upgrade now to BOINC version 5.8.16..... This is a GREAT suggestion. The only problem is that Boinc can not then connect to the servers and I'm not sure what happens from there. But your note caused me to upgrade from 4 something. Thanks! Should something about this be put on the home page? Bill Guiher (Guy'-er) |

Should something about this be put on the home page? I think this is a good idea. It would probably do a lot of good to announce new versions right on the home page so everyone knows. |

Should something about this be put on the home page? Which Home page ![]() When did you last take a look at the BOINC Home page ... that is the only appropriate place for that info. I agree, it would be helpful if "they" (the BOINC team) posted the latest version (link) there. The SETI forums are not the best place to discuss general BOINC things and this particular forum is actually about Matt keeping the crunchin'grunts (you, me and us) up to date on the can-of-worms-opening-and-labelling project ![]() ![]() Chas - Orme's Tun, Mercia, Albion. ![]() |

My update is done now. I supposed the Boinc software would do upgrades of its own, when a new stable version would be available. Either you implement an automatic update in some future release (minimum would be to tell the user that an update is available) or you should make a sign on the main page that is showing the actual stable version. I would be satisfied with each of that solutions. Although I am treating my pc with some other boinc-jobs too, I am still waiting to get on with crunching for SETI. It has been my first job and I will continue. Thanks so far to everybody who makes working for science available to every simple guy. |
