Hello,

Could somebody please explain in detail how I can optimise my computer to run BOINC with SETI. I have a Pentium 4 CPU.

Thanks,

Adagio

Just go to http://lunatics.at/index.php?module=Downloads

Download the appropriate package for your OS, install and run and it's done.

Once I load the optimisation files into the BOINC file location and run BOINC how will I know that the optimisation files are running. Is there a notification in the BOINC window in the messages pull down menu. At the moment it is showing no difference.

IIRC, on the Tasks tab it will indicate it's a KSWN app in the Application field, and in the Message tab it will indicate that BOINC found an app_info.xml file when it started up.

Other than that BOINC should look and feel like it always did, except there may be no graphics if you choose that version for max performance.

You can verify it's using the Coop app by checking the Slot directories manually with Explorer (assuming you're running Windows).

HTH,

If you go into Task Manager > Processes....It will show that one of the processes running is a Chicken Soup process. It should read "KWSN 2.2B SSEx" etc.

Once you’ve reported a result, go to its page on the website and look in the "stderr out" messages; optimized apps put signatures in the file to identify authors, revision numbers, and so on.

Adagio, it looks like you've achieved success and now could call yourself "Rápido". Your crunchtimes (for 60-credit units) have been sliced to about 30 percent (233 percent speedup).

WOW!!!

Looks to be crunching 2 - 4 times faster!!!

I used the version with no graphics.

System:

Model: Dell Inspiron 9400
OPSYS: Vista Home
Processor: Duel Intel T2250 @ 1.73GHz 1.73GHz
Memory: 2046 MB
Type: 32 bit opsys

It took about 5 minutes for the benchmark to complete but then just had to click the "install recommended files" button, and BINGO!!!

Thanks much!!!

It is wonderfull app, hats off for the KWSN guys.
Only strange thing is that now both my Beta and standard WUs run through the 5.17, but they are happily validated without any increase in calculating errors.

Tip when installing and using the automatic installer. Do by all means SHUT off everything possible, it hangs otherwise. And you will probably have to turn the dial into shortest possible time, so check what processor you have if possible so no funkiness occurs.

But after a few minutes of noodling with the app it was well worth it. Me and a friend have a competition of our own with our PD 3.2GHz identical rigs. To put it simply, we see who can punch out a +60 WU in the least amount of seconds. Since he switched to ReactOS he was a lot faster than me, but now I am past him again by far. Yeah!
Now I am just sad that my job does not allow me to switch to ReactOS myself. Perhap's I can run it at night from a live-CD though... *muses over arcane OSs*

I'm running a pentium D 3.2 with 7266 secs for 64.73 score

Youre running a pentium D 3.2 with 7803 secs for 64.22 score

I'm a bit faster because I have the Presler core with 2mb L2 cache, and you have the Smithfield core with 1MB L2 cache.

And with the chicken app he is now down to 5108 for a 64,31 WU on a 3.2 Smithfield D.
But that is with a stripped down ReactOS.

That’s because the app_info.xml file that came with your optimized app tells BOINC that it’s v5.17, even though it’s really based on an earlier version. There’s a bug concerning the fact that both the stock v5.13/5.15 app here and the v5.17 being tested on S@h Beta are called “setiathome_enhanced”: since you’re running both projects, if the optimized app weren’t ‘spoofing’ its version number, BOINC would decide that it was obsolete (based on seeing a v5.17 with the same name, even though it belongs to a different project) and dump tasks with an error as soon as it started them.

As I mentioned upthread, if you look at the messages in the output file from one of your results on the website, you’ll see the correct version info being reported there:

“Optimized SETI@Home Enhanced application
Optimizers: Ben Herndon, Josef Segur, Alex Kan, Simon Zadra
Version: Windows SSE3-P4/PD 32-bit based on S@H V5.15 'Noo? No - Ni!'
Revision: 2.2B|xP+GFX|FFT:IPP_SSE3|Ben-Joe”

So, in a nutshell:

Will our units count and are they still usable by SETI?

I think it also matters that I am against all odds running the graphic Chicken app and that nicks a little bit. But now and then I like to see what S@H is doing;-)
