No problems here either. Running over 10 weeks now. Maybe deinstal and reinstal could fix your problems. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

WUs' okay, w/HP Presario, WinXP; errors w/Sony VAIO, VISTA. Err. mess.': * * * Gentlemen -- Here is an XP-to-VISTA transition history of mine, which may provide you with a little added insight on what may have caused various types of failures, under VISTA, of my BOINC projects: SETI@home, climateprediction, net (It did fail, ultimately), Einstein@Home, rosetta@home, and lhcathome (not an active issue; it was "suspended"). 1) Transferred all BOINC files from HP Presario 3000 (with WinXP, one cpu) to Sony VAIO (with WinVISTA, "Business"; dual cpu's); a 4GB "flash" drive was used. Note: I don't believe that transferring these types of files from XP to VISTA should have been the cause of any problems, but am listing, FYI. 2) Re-downloaded/installed BOINC, ver. 5.8.16. Note1: The BOINC software may/may not have been loaded/installed via the usual Program Files\\BOINC approach; the same for the "flash" drive transfer -- they may/may not have been installed using two different initial procedures*. * Ref. "Windows Vista, Inside Out", E. Bott, C. Siechert, C.Stinson, "Working with (and Around) Protected Mode", pp. 880-881, Microsoft Press. Note2: I should have read this before initiating the transfer. 3) Reset all five projects Resolution: 1) Uninstalled BOINC 2) Re-installed BOINC (Seti) Note3: VISTA "protected mode" approach used; i.e., I made no changes to the recommended install locations. Note4: Also, per John McLeod, the "all user account" option was taken. Results: No pblms., after approx. 1.5 hrs run-time. 2ea seti pgrms. completed ~22%, and climateprediction.net, rosetta@home presently running. Conclusion: I shall let the chips fall as they may, under VISTA, and not try to force any downloads/installs to any other locations. Hopefully, the above has proved as enlightening to one and all, as it has to me. Best wishes to all, Jim Martin |
