I keep getting messages stating I have exceeded either 25, 35 or 50 units. Why is this and why do I always get different limits? Also, any idea why the slowest of my computers is always the one to "over process?

I have been a member since May 99 and never got these messages until recently. I don't wnat to be limited on what i can process! I need input...input.

The limit is 100/day/CPU and it is reduced by 1 every time you return a bad result. This is to prevent a rogue computer from draining the queue of WU on the server. It doubles for every good results up to the limit. If you look at the results for that computer you will find a lot of client errors. I think that system may be having problems. First thing I'd look at is overheating due to dust accumulating on fans or heatsink. Possibly a bad memory stick. It definitely needs to be looked into. Seti can often work as an early warning system of something breaking down on a computer.

EDIT: A second look indicates that the problem appears to be with downloading the WU ?????

You seem to have 3 computers connected to Seti. 2 of them have the max of 100 pur cpu per day limit. The slowest computer, the 2ghz one, is down to 35 per day because of what Berkeley thinks are downloading errors. Can you post the last 20 to 30 lines from its message pane here so we can try and figure out why? I am assuming that all 3 pc's are in the same place and are connecting whenever they need to, thru a cable or dsl connection. If this is not true please tell us. What is the "spam file=ter with a two hour limit"? My pc's are on 24/7/365 and they work fine. What is a "spam filter"? And how do you have it setup?

The filter is St. Bernard Internet filter in place at my work. It limits where you can go but Seti is not affected. However, I must sign in every two hours or it disconnects until i sign in again...

I never had this problem running the old Seti. I must admit I am not a big Bionic Fan. Everything used to run smoothly. Now I can't get downloads for all different reasons. Over limit, servers down or whatever. Old Seti just purred along for years without one glitch.

OK, a couple of things you might try.

Change the connect every X to be the same as you actually are at the computer to log it into the network.

Before you walk away from the machine, tell BOINC to disallow network access.

The problem is that Classic, as it is called, stopped doing any good work long ago. It kept re-issuing the same workunits as long as users asked for more work. Then it gave credit for finishing a unit, but it made no difference if that returned unit was Scientifically usable or not. People would overclock their machines and do other crazy things just so they could get 1 credit and basically return junk. NOT everyone did that!!!! BUT SOME DID! And that made it necessary to move to something else. Oh did I say that the funding for Classic dried up? It did LONG AGO! The Government stopped funding it, EVERYONE stopped funding Classic and it either became something else or the Project closed. So Boinc was born, which basically is the same thing only we can now attach to many Projects. This gives all those other Projects access to you and I, and gives Berkeley possible funding sources.
