He He! In the thread "7 Year Club" there were even more people 'bragging' about their early 'fake' joining date (April 3rd 1999) - including "MikeSW17" Link to thread: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=36780 For most people the SETI Classic project came to their attention through this BBC News Broadcast on May 17th 1999: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/345465.stm Also - our SETI ID-number reflects the SETI Classic World Ranking position as of May 14th 2003 (first Classic Database Merge) for most of us 'oltimers'. ;-) Kiva Greetings from Norway Crunch3er & AK-V8 Inside |

On your SETI@home page over there, look for the line that reads “Link to position in 'sign-up date' stats Thanx for that. |

Well, I have 3 months to go until July 9th; still, it's been a while ;o) It's amazing how far distributed computing has come since then, and how many people participate. For me, it was seeing the SETI@Home screensaver in a movie, I forget which one it was. I used to think it was "Contact" but that came out in '97. Anyone remember? Regards, Simon. Although not a movie, I remember and episode of JAG that had the SETI@Home screen saver about a year or two after the project was started. I got started because of an article in a magazine. I don't recall which magazine though. |

Its ok to try to forget your birthday, but in my case my sign on date is the same day, so it gets stuck in front of my face every time I post, or look at my account. Andy P.S. Never ever forget birthdays of those who must be obeyed, i.e. mothers, wives, girlfriends, mistresses etc. |

Hi peeps, Guess I'm also an "almost 8 year member", having also been given an "early" (incorrect) start date of 3rd April 1999.... I think I actually started in late July/early August 1999, after visiting a computer fair in Melbourne, Fla. Someone had SETI Classic running and it intrigued me......I think the main issue at the time was that non US "local calls" weren't free - IIRC, in the US all local calls were free, so as dial-up was the norm, so many internet connections we're made via local ISP "pop" (points of presence). So, for running SETI in the US and allowing it to "auto-dial" when it finished one WU, wasn't a problem. In UK, all calls were charged, even local ones, and we had various call charges depending on the day and time of making a call....so I lost valuable crunching time, after a WU finished and before I could upload it/ and download another. Thankfully SETIQueue came along and allowed members to "cache" WUs. ah, such memories..... regards, Tim Founder, UK BOINC Team Join us @ UK BOINC Team: http://www.ukboincteam.org.uk/newforum |

Guess I'm also an "almost 8 year member", having also been given an "early" (incorrect) start date of 3rd April 1999.... All those that have the April 3, 1999 date are incorrect. Except for Eric Korpela who joined in 1901. me@rescam.org |

(Jumping the gun slightly to be the thread starter ;D ) 10th of June 1999 here. 8 years real soon now. Started with a P2 233Mhz and later that year built a P3 600Mhz at a time when 733Mhz was the fastest CPU I could find for a home computer and wasnt worth the big dollar difference. Have learned that a laptop I bought called a "Pearl" in Australia (many names elsewhere) in 2002 shouldnt run anything like Seti or Boinc as it burned out the CPU on it even though it was adequately heat protected. Not running them since 2003 means the same CPU is still in it. Went through various phases and when I can get WUs again, now only have 2 x P4 3Ghz machines and that aforementioned P3 600Mhz running Boinc/Seti and no other project. I was never interested in other projects though I looked at them. This one really caught my attention and I love it. When there are no dramas exchanging completed WUs and getting new ones as needed, I rarely think about what it is doing excepting those times I need the CPU cycles back but when I do think of it, I am still happy just to be in it. Writing all this made me look at my score so far. Only 297,949.25 so really not "fabbo" as they once used to say but hey, it is that many done that may not have been done as soon, I guess. What I would like to see: Signal data that comes in to be processed so it can be sent out being processed then the waiting WUs put somewhere not in the same site it is right now so that the chance of a stuffup at Seti doesnt mean we cant get more WUs and also the receiving side at that same place (or another) so that they can pile up there while probs are fixed and then Seti can pick them up as needed. Why? Well, we may last longer and complain less when problems happen. :) |

This should be of help.......... http://seticlassic.ssl.berkeley.edu/classpages/index.html Do not try the search as it no longer functions but the data is there for you all to find manually.(That should keep you busy!) Go find!!!! Don't look too hard for the 3rd April 1999....It does not exist! Graeme. www.boincuk.com |

I get a blank page. Am I missing something? this space intentionally left blank In all seriousness, I don't get anything for that date either... I do however get data for my start date, 06/11/1999...and various other dates. Lots of other dates don't have anything in them either, so they too are missing the this space intentionally left blank Edit: Hey, wow...I ended up at 158... I'm currently at #13 for SETI-BOINC. |

Every time I click on Apr. 9, 2002 (or almost any date for that matter), I get a blank page. Am I missing something? All the tables after a certain date, February 2002 or thereabouts IIRC (found by trial-&-error), are empty. |
