has the freezing and disc corruption been fixed for 98/me yet? i tried to check that thread but its gone off topic me thinks.

Maybe. I believe that it was fixed in 4.07, but that is no longer available, and 4.08 has not yet had any testing done.

Whether you DL 4.08 is up to you. But remember that you are shorting the smoke test cycle if you do so. The new version could be better or worse (much worse occasionally) than the production version.
