I'm quite familiar with Unix, but new to Linux (CentOS). I have downloaded the .sh from the site, but is not a shell script, it looks more like a tar. yet it won't unpack. Along with the other answers, there are the instructions on the boinc.berkeley.edu site. Slightly more comprehensive, there's the boinc wiki-help instructions. And it's far wiser to ask than to remain unknowing! Happy crunchin', Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

I don't know Centos, but in Mandriva and others. I need to enter Konsole, then make sure I'm logged in as user. then enter cd Desktop (note: capital D) then do the sh "boinc name.sh" to install to the desktop. If you accidently installed to root then use Konsole, go to root (su) and find the folder that boinc is in using the ls command to make sure you're there. Then type "rm -rf BOINC" to remove the bad install. Then go back and try again. the command to install would look like this: sh boinc_5.8.16_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh then enter |

All. I'm certainly not an expert, but typing "sh (filename.sh)" installed it in the root of my home directory. Had the file downloaded to my home directory. Wanted it to install under the desktop hierarchy...couldn't find it until I went up a level and found it at the root...I dunno..john |

All. Not sure if this is the correct place for this post. I'm quite familiar with Unix, but new to Linux (CentOS). I have downloaded the .sh from the site, but is not a shell script, it looks more like a tar. yet it won't unpack. Am I being thick or what? Rob.B
