If you do as popandbob says, your CPU will run in a 10 second round-about. If you set at 90% the system will run 100% for 9 seconds then idle for 1 second. This actually has made my laptop a lot less hot, and quieter. So just 10% can make a huge difference.

Set the CPU usage in BOINC options
Make sure you have 5.8.XX version
Update project seti@home

Or..

Do it locally in simple view preferences... in 5.8.XX version

I was just wondering.

Whenever I start the program my taskbar shows the cpu at 100% and my computer fan gets louder.

Is there a way I can set it to only use a smaller percentage of my cpu.

I think I did it in my profile, but it still wants all of my cpu.
