I have a computer here running win2k that will eventually go to my mother. For now it's running BOINC. I decided to add some variety and attached to three more projects including NanoHive. Upon close examination I find the website has no way to access an individual's account info. With no way of seeing whether results returned are valid and no way to watch for problems I am unwilling to donate my computer time. I've detached from the project. Thanks for the link Misfit. Maybe I should have googled. The bookmark I had was http://www.nanoengineer-1.com/nh1/ and the link there to the @home project is broken. I've had problems with projects using a wrapper and want to keep an eye on projects. For example there's a major problem with Chess960. With Chess960 on my dual P3 linux computer I get 50% of results marked invalid when both processors are used. I posted a message on their forum. I don't want to wind up with yet another problem project dragging my RAC down. You might have the old address. Their home page and correct project url to attach to is http://www.nanohive-1.org/atHome/ me@rescam.org |

You might have the old address. Their home page and correct project url to attach to is http://www.nanohive-1.org/atHome/ Nanohive recently issued new WUs which had some problems. One problem was to stop the processing until you hit 'enter' to continue. So if you were crunching unattended your computer would sit there idly waiting for your attention. They (say they) have resolved the problems and have issued an even newer batch of WUs. Perhaps you'll let me know if they still don't keep crashing and halting BOINC for a key depression. flaming balloons |

You might have the old address. Their home page and correct project url to attach to is http://www.nanohive-1.org/atHome/ I believe it halted the manager (I didn't hang around very long in the nanohive forums to find out), but I wasn't too impressed with an error halting the crunching and not downloading another until a key was depressed. Just a bad piece of coding I think, which they have now resolved. What is BOINC Studio? flaming balloons |

What is BOINC Studio? It's a different manager. Its main thing was being able to change the number of CPUs reported on your system up to 8 to help work around WU quota limits. But it uses BOINC version 5.4.9. Read more about it here. me@rescam.org |

You might have the old address. Their home page and correct project url to attach to is http://www.nanohive-1.org/atHome/ It would most likely be install type dependent. If you install as a service with the default options, you will never see a popup from a science application because they are running in the service context -- which does not have access to the screen. You might have the old address. Their home page and correct project url to attach to is http://www.nanohive-1.org/atHome/ Nope, not as a service. But I don't believe the stock manager and Studio play nice together. If I leave them both running a full day or two I sometimes end up with a no heartbeat error. So I kill the boincmgr.exe process and let Studio run on its own. me@rescam.org |
