I don't know about the RAC, but if it is about the same, then because of the TDP the X2 should be the better choice.

Both my X2's have been in EDF for about a day and a half so the RAC's are down.

The X2 4200 is overclocked to 2.68Ghz and has reached as high as 1366 RAC.

The X2 3800 is overclocked to 2.64Ghz and has reached as high as 1350 RAC.

Both are running with BH-5 ram that is highly overclocked with timings of 2-2-2-5 1T.

Hope this helps Crunch3r.

That's easy to answer ... i can get both a PD 915 and a X2 3800+ for about $ 0 it's only up to me which one i prefer ;)

Good reason! You can't beat the price, that's for sure. 8-)

Why are you not considering a Core 2 Duo? They're cheap, they're fast and they can jump buildings in single bounds, end world hunger, cure cancer and still make it home in time to make you dinner.

Seriously though, why no Core 2 Duo?

P.S.

No matter what ... both cpu's will be overkill... just some surfing on the net ... nothing else... i'd guess a p3 500 would be enough for my dad but hey ... i have to choose... so i'd guess i'll take the better cruncher regarding RAC ;)

Hi guys,

i'm about to build a new computer for my dad and am thinking about which cpu to use, either a d915 or a x2 3800+ .

I would really appriciate if "you" could post some RACs (if you got one of those CPUs) using Windows XP 32 bit.

All should be using an optimized app and running at stock speed.

P.S. preferably with a link to your host.

Thanks

Cruncher, I have a AMD X2 4200+
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=2984880

and a P-D 915

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=3032088

They are both performing right about the same.. My X2 is o/c to 2.41, and the P-D is stock.
