Hi to all... I think that if extraterrestrial intelligent life existed, our cultural level would be probably very different (lower or upper) from theirs...It's very difficult that two different "populations" so far have something similar... I'm sure that in universe life exists, but i (we) don't know if it's an intelligent life.....And so Seti is very very important in my opinion, cos it try to clarify our mind... But we have to remember that we can't give nothing for sure, everything could be doubted... That's the unique certainty... Bye bye from Italy... |

Food for thought: I'm with you, Andy. I've wondered about that too. We can't avoid the "leakage." But we have sent a few beacons out there, I believe. The intent was to let them know we are here. Actually, if you think about it, we don't have much choice in the matter of being found. We can't really hide. Most likely, if we are found, they are going to be more advanced than we. Hopefully they have advanced in the direction of PEACE. But if they are sending out robots that need carbon to "eat," then we are ducksoup. It is no good to try to stop knowledge from going forward. Food for thought: People generally seem to assume any alien life wil be friendly towards us, but just as exists on our planet, there could be a species out there whose life style and survival revolves around the plundering of the colonies of other species. I expect most of you are thinking 'Independence Day' now, but it is a possibility we shouldn't overlook. I doubt such a species would do too well all the way out here, but closer to the galactic centre where we can expect a higher density of life-supporting planets, such a predatory species could survive.... Point for discussion: Should we really be advertising ourselves so naiivly to the unknown? |

There are 4 spacecraft headed into the void. Voyager 1 and 2 and Pioneer 10 and 11. Thats proof of our existence and lets just hope that there is someone else in the corner of our universe to find them. Five, actually. You forgot about New Horizons. |

Scientists have plans for "spaceships." I can't remember the type or the energy source being used. But I believe that they have already decided on a design and in the early stages of prototypes. Like you mentioned, past "fantasies" are becoming reality. Humans are going to Mars, six months out and six months back, not bad for our first real long distance journey. Rather than risking space travel for humans, I believe that self replicating robots under our control will do the "outer space" exploration for us. The sky is the limit for that!!!! That way, if we happen to become extinct for some reason, evidence of our existence will be out there for whatever that is worth. In the realm of things, I guess, it is really only important to us. I wonder what others think because i saw all the people who think that light speed travel will never happen. But at one time they said travling faster than sound would never happen or that man would never get to the moon.I think it's going to be up to how much faster the computer age gets, there are things we are doing with computers today that 30 years ago they said was impossable,I hope for mankind that one day in the far future that we can build spaceships that can travel light speed to find another planet we can call home because the sun is going to expand and destroy our planet we call earth. Well... Traveling faster-than-sound, Moon trips, computers, etc don't break any laws... I like to think humans will, one day, be exploring (some may say, "contaminating") other solar systems. But, it'll come from travel involving many generations rather than FTL. The generation arriving at any other world in a different system will be much different than us. They will have developed their own culture. Their language will have mutated from ours. They, themselves, may even have mutated (evolved). |
